Just curious for all of you running iOS 8... How would you rate Beta 1 in terms of stability?

1=horribly crashy / 5=good enough for daily use / 10=flawless

My iphone 5 kept running hot on me in Beta 1 and sometimes the wake button was unresponsive. That was enough for me to go back. I'll wait for Beta 2.

Same issues as above

+Battery life dies like no tommorow.

Something is up with location services that is causing it to be hot and causes battery drain.

It is almost always being used unless you turn it off..

I voted 7 and think it's pretty stable for a Beta 1. I've had a few issues where the home screen wouldn't awake when I pressed the home button, settings app crashing, just minor things to be honest. I'm using it on my daily driver and all is good so far.

There seems to be some speculation around here that the location service responsible for "popular around me" for the appstore is the culprit. I'm going to reload Beta 1 once again and try that.

Definitely not good enough for daily use. So many apps do not work and lots of crashes and battery not lasting long yet. Fun to play with, not something to use every day.

*sigh*

Is this thread really necessary. It's a dev beta 1. Until we get near to release it is likely to be unstable, beta 1 especially so.

If you look in Location services, if you turn on location services, the app can use the location even when the app is in the background.

Put it on my iPad - already had one random springboard crash and having major issues with Chrome and 1Password. Also Safari randomly freezes when scrolling sites like The Verge. Other than that it is doing alright. Not going to put it on my phone though.

Maybe it is different for everyone but here is what is happening with my phone.

It is the App Store for some reason always using location services even when I set it to Never.

The only way for me to stop it is to completely turn of location services. Sent a bug report and downgraded for now. Don't have much time to deal with anything at the moment :p

Yup +1 was guessing it had something to do with that. Let me know if restoring it fixes it!

--Push email doesn't always work
--most google apps are unstable (interesting)

Definitely not a daily driver.

Does everyone else's location services icon just stay on all the time, or is it just mine?

Definitely not a daily driver.

Maybe all they use is the calculator. ;)

I installed iOS 8 clean and was having resprings in Settings and one of the native apps crashed. It's definitely a beta and the problem with people reporting "no issues" is that "stable" and "issues" aren't clearly defined. It's too bad because those responses sucker in people who get in over their head.

Edit: I guess while I'm on my soapbox, people also don't separate apps verses iOS. If we're talking iOS with no apps installed then I'd give it a 3 in this poll. With apps I'd give it a 1. But that's normal with betas. If it were a 10 they'd release it. And no software ever anywhere is a 10.

This release was for developers to test their updated apps to get it working in time for the fall. If you want to use a beta as a daily driver then wait until July when more bugs are squashed. Also know that in software development, some releases that squashes old bugs will create new ones. You'll see problems until GM.

Never had a reboot yet.
But apps do crashed often.
Also some bugs.
But overall pretty useable.

Yeah I noticed this as well, I went to the known bug list for iOS 8 and found this

Location Services
Known Issues
•When Location Services is turned on, the device’s current location is used to recommend relevant apps on the lock screen. In this beta, this happens whether or not the App Store is enabled for Location Services.

Workaround: To disable app recommendation on the lock screen, turn off Location Services.

•The CLVisit class incorrectly declares the coordinate and horizontalAccuracy properties as read/write.

•Apps using visit monitoring that are denied location authorization via Settings may appear to continue using location when they are not.

•Visit monitoring may continue if an app is uninstalled while it is monitoring for visits.
