Has iOS 13.5 fixed your screen stuttering/unresponsiveness issues on 2017-2019 iPad Pro’s?

I have seen quite a few posts about touchscreen issues with the 2017-2019 iPad Pro’s where the screen unpredictably becomes unresponsive to swipes, touches, and gestures for varying amounts of time from a few seconds up to 20+ seconds or even more.

Here’s a post about it last year: https://www.macrumors.com/2019/04/02/ipad-pro-screen-stuttering-issues/

The general consensus is that it is a hardware, not software issue.

I was experiencing this maddening issue with iOS 13.4.1 with my 2017 iPad Pro 12.9” going unresponsive to touches for up to 20 seconds at a time. It’s almost like what happens on a Mac when the whole system beachballs and becomes unresponsive.

Then, after upgrading to iOS 13.5 on release day (May 20), the issue seems to have been fixed! I hope I’m not jinxing myself here, but I haven’t experienced the issue since the upgrade. ??

Thanks for responding to the poll so we can get a healthy sample size!

Based on the posts and threads I have read here I was left with the impression that it is hardware problem. If this is the case I doubt that any iOS update can fix those issues permanently.

Yeah, the touchscreen issues on my 12.9-inch 2018 iPad Pro have disappeared! :D

Since when do you have touchscreen issues LOL? The last time you stated you only had a friend who got it, am I wrong? ;)

This is funny how these threads pop up every time the new update comes out. People still want to believe Apple's hardware problems can be fixed by a mysterious Apple magic update. No guys, the touchscreen issue disappears with the update only for a while and only coincidentally, have a look at this thread dating back to 2017:

It comes and goes, but unfortunately it stays until you exchange the device or buy a new one. But personally I would wait until Apple fixes their manufacturing.

Do you have any rock solid evidence?

I have never had a problem with the iPad Pro. Now sometimes the iPhone 11 Pro is unresponsive and 13.5 has made no difference.

I‘m assuming your posting history? If this is true (not saying that it is, I don’t have the time or desire to check), it would be disingenuous on your part to say an Apple update fixed an issue you never had.

Had my 2017 iPP 12.9 replaced due to touch screen issues under AppleCare+ back in October 2019. I'm now starting to see occasional touch response issues on the replacement. I'm on 13.4 but just for sh!ts and giggles I'll update to 13.5 . . . I'm not expecting things to change with regards to touch screen though.

As has been noted, threads like this have popped up before. I have to think that if Apple truly discovered a software issue that caused this stuff, they'd post in a change log that it was addressed and not just slip it in unnoticed. I would think they'd want the world to know as I'm surely not the only one that has gotten a free exchange of a device exhibiting the problem and I won't be the last.

Any place but here or there....
Well, I am reluctant to update but probably will, as 13.4 started occasional touch irresponsiveness on my 2020 11”.

My touch issues have been usually heat and hardware. At this point, I just want it fixed already.

I had all the classic touch screen freeze problems on my brand new 2018 12.9 1TB iPad Pro that slowly developed in the first few months of use becoming worse everyday. But, somewhere along the line it all completely quit and I haven’t had any problems for many months. Though I would have bet money on it being a hardware issue it apparently was not. I assume one of the iOS Updates fixed it but I don’t know which one. Bottom line, it was software related and has been totally fixed.

I only notice this in Apple news since day 1 on my ipp11(2018). But that app has always been super buggy so I think my ipad hardware is ok.

Only trying to help, guys - worth a shot. Got nothing to lose if it's really a hardware issue.

Like I said, I thought it was a hardware issue, but was surprised by how the issue seems to have drastically reduced or been eliminated.

Thanks for the replies and responses so far! As long as there's no class action lawsuit, we got no recourse if we don't have warranty/AppleCare.
