Have it on there, but format about a dozen lines before it shows up underneath the sig, so it looks like this:

<end of email>

Sent from my iPad

-----

That way, most people will quit reading when the get to the signature and probably won't even see it was sent from an iPad. And if they do, they probably won't care.

absolutely right on. in terms of JPD (just plain douchebaggery), its a move that can be off-putting to the receiver. mandatory signatures with disclaimers are also annoying, esp. with internal emails. No need for them.

Agree on the mandatory signatures being annoying. I have seen some on internal emails that are 3 paragraphs long, no lie. That's what happens when you let the legal department dictate email signatures.

For the OP, I personnaly prefer to just identify the fact that I'm using a mobile device with, 'Sent from a mobile device' as the sig.

Probably depends on your industry, but for the most part I would say it's unprofessional. I have removed the "from my iPhone" when I send mail on my iPhone.

The "Sent from my iPad/iPhone" looks tacky, but Person Name, Job title, email and maybe phone number would be okay, so long as it the same across the board :)

i DO for the reason stated above. Whenever i'm mobile my responses are usually curt and concise, and I oft send out an acknowledgement e-mail if i'm handling something else. Hence the following phrase :

May be percieved as rude to those who aren't familiar with my style , but is easily transformed:

tis got nothing to do with how cool I am or what i'm using, just to let the individual know that i'm on the move and will respond momentarily.

If the iPhone had Swype, you wouldn't have to be so short with the message. Unfortunately when submitted to Apple it worked so well on the iPhone they were too jealous, so they denied it.

I really enjoy my iPhone 4, but carry my Galaxy S as my primary smartphone.

It has Swype, a Super AMOLED 4" screen, and long battery life. That makes email, messaging, and the web fast & easy.

I end all of my emails with:

- Sent from my white iPhone 4 32GB.
PowerMac G4 2x867, 1.25gb ram, 160GB HD, PowerMac G5 2x2GHz, 3.5gb ram, 80gb HD, PowerBook G4, Sony Vaio F, Studio RTA Desks, Office Depot Chair, I am wearing Nike shorts and a Hot Topic shirt. Also, I just spent $5 on a Ventii Frappachino with soy and organic sugar at Starbucks.
*Insert snarky 1 liner here with "**************************" as a link at the end*

...

What? I see sigs like that all the time here! I thought it was cool.

Easily the best post! LOL!

You guys think that means people try to show off?

They give out iPhones 3GS for free and iPhone 4's for 150$. In most professions it would take a lot more dough to show off. Same goes for the iPad. I don't even think I know people that email without a phone worth around the same price as an iPhone or BB Bold.

I leave it, simply because I won't take as much time responding through my phone or my tablet as I would on my real keyboard based PC.

And to take this to the next level. OP, you shouldn't care so much. Have your profession show you mean business, not some stupid signature.

unprofessional. when i see 'sent from my iPhone' I think 'I'm a douche that has to advertise my devices so people think I'm cool'

In the business world people assess you by results not by which fancy gadgets you won.

I generally cannot stand the "Sent from my iDevice" in the signatures because of two things: 1. I think it just states "Hey look at me I'm cool enough to send an email from a iDevice" and 2. If it's just the default signature, I don't think the person knows how to configure their device.

With that being said, on my iDevices I have "Sent via Mobile." under my signature (name, email, mobile). I think it's important to show that I am away from my computer hence why I may have wrote a shorter email, possible (albeit rare) spelling mistake, or just for a heads up.

Just my $0.02.

Extremely unprofessional, no matter what type of business or situation (busy, on the move) you're in. That's just my opinion.

Beyond being unprofessional, it reeks of just plain douchebaggery. Who gives a flip on what platform you're replying to me. Just reply with a concise answer to my question or concern, or acknowledge my e-mail and end it that.

The worst signature I've seen was a dopey "Sent from my iPhone because I'm AFK."

Worst part? This was from a higher-up at my workplace. Silly fool!

I agree, and blank out the signature as well.

Unprofessional. I'm already annoyed by those "Sent from iPhone" or "Sent on the TELUS Mobility network with BlackBerry" signatures from Kijiji emails. I feel like they're bragging about their device. But that signature can make up for the typos and short response.

Did you guys see your signatures on these forums?
Isn't that in itself showing off? Who cares how many Ghz or Gigabytes or songs you paid for legally
Yeah, I said it.
I said it. I said it in Johannesburg, I said it! I said it in London, England, I said that ****! I said it at the Apollo Theatre, I said that *****!

The point (IMO) of these signatures is to let you know that there may be spelling errors or brief choppy replies because it was made on a mobile device. I for one don’t want to be thought of as rude or spelling challenged.

I see no arrogance in the – sent from my iPhone..

I think too many old people might be on this forum!!

There's quite a difference between spending time in a recreational forum and a business e-mail account, which was the subject of this particular thread.

The iPhone has spell check. So does the Blackberry. Spelling errors get the same negative reaction whether they're sent from a traditional computer or from a mobile device.

True but it's pretty hypocritical to say that having a "Sent from my iPhone/iPad" email signature means that you're bragging while at the same time having forum signatures listing every device you own.

Have you ever seen www.damnyouautocorrect.com? The iOS autocorrect while really good most of the times it can also cause some really embarrassing mistakes.

I don't use the ' sent from iPad or iPhone ' signature. In fact, the first thing I did was delete that from my iPhone.

When replying to a formal/business email, it's a simple ' Regards, full name , contact number ' and that's about it.

You guys think that means people try to show off?
Yes, it's a practice that's unique to Apple people. Frankly it's a joke in the business community and interpreted as such. Especially amongst those who are tech savvy, since they know that historically other than design, Apples never been serious about catering to the corporate space.

I travel internationally and use a smartphone for business emails and such. With Swype on my Android phone, I'm not limited. It's easy to compose any length message that's appropriate.

It a real shame that Apple fails to approve the Swype App for iPhone. I think it's so good that Apple's embarrassed they didn't create it.

Funny, I just received an email from someone at work and it has a signature ' Sent from my Blackberry ' :D I didn't know BB's had this signature too..

As for Swype, yes I love it on my Evo!! * Off Topic Comment * I also recently installed this free app ' Swipe Pad'. This allows you to create 12 shortcuts for any Apps on your phone. Just swipe across the screen and there are your 12 apps!! Pretty neat! :D /Off Topic comment :p

In the business I own I am debating with my IT guy. We have our company email configured on the iPads (and iPhones) of those who use them. One of us says clients in today's technological world would view it favorably if in the employees email signature showed "Sent from my iPad" under all the normal name, address, phone stuff. A way of showing the clients not only we are technologically advanced, but that were very accessible almost anywhere. The other says it looks unprofessional. I won't say who's stance is which until the poll closes but I can tell you who will win. ;) So, what do you think? You'd think like Darth Vader..."Impressive, most impressive..." or would you think what is this... "Revenge of the dorks"?

"technologically advanced"? Some may think that you just do not know how to remove this stuff from your signature :D

Haha! I had my devices in my signature so when I post for help I wouldn't have to explain every time what the specifics of the device I was asking for help on were!

I now express my secret love for Apples!

To my co-workers I'll leave it in. Especially as it gives them a hint that I may be out and away from my desk, and possibly busy with other things (certainly so when from my iPhone.)

To people outside the work network? Nope.

Nah, it's not about speed. It's about whether I want to write a long drawn out e-mail now or later.

Glad you're enjoying your Galaxy S though.

What's this Swipe nonsense? Swipe didn't make it into the app store because it requires adding code to each application running on the device, which is clearly banned by the app store rules.

That's why it got rejected. Not because Apple was jealous.

Whatever the Swipe folks say, it's an app that clearly violates the app store rules. They can spin it however they want...
