if the lower end macbooks where black and the highest end was white would we be having this same convorsation??

yes we would. Some people have a strong enough preference one way or the other to pay a $150 premium. Some people would pay $150 more no matter which was more expensive just because they like owning the most expensive model. Some people have no preference at all. And many people, myself included, have a preference, but don't feel strongly enough to pay $150 extra.

(and really, it's $200 extra for me because I have the stock 60 GB drive and its plenty, so the extra 20 GB would be meaningless)

and btw, how many times must this question be asked? Aren't the previous 10 threads on the value of the black macbook enough??

It's clearly a hot-button for some people.

Get a PB G3 Wallstreet to show off a black pile'a poo, and get yourself a spankin' new white MacBook. If you wanna show off, get ColorWare to paint your MB in an even more special color. (Blue is cool).
Like I said in my post, a paint job from colorware is $4-500 and does not cover painting the keyboard or the touchpad. A completely black laptop from Apple is only $200 more (well, guesstimating, cause edu blackbook was $1399 and the white one is $1199). That extra $200 can be better spent on RAM....heheheh.

My fav pbg3 is the pismo. booo.

Nah, I don't think so. Especially because you're more likely to see smudges with the matte the finish of the black MacBook...

I don't see the appeal of the MacBook in black. The black iPod is another matter but then, it's glossy and doesn't look as if it's collected dust.

Except for the extra storage on the black machine, you get a bit of exclusivity. Extra RAM beats exclusivity every time when running applications.

I know that a lot of people have blackbooks that have perfect screen hinges, but i recently checked all the black macbooks at my local apple store and all of their hinges were very squeaky.

Not worth it at all...

The $150 price difference for the exact same product in white is rediculous. They could have at least upgraded the video card or gave it a 2.16 ghz processor.... hell even more RAM would have been some kind of incentive. They really had a chance to make a mini MBP but squandered it on a 150 dollar paint job.

Is it my imagination or isn't the macbook pro (vs mb) and wasn't the powerbook (vs. ibook) priced signficanltly higher for very similar specs and a different casing? I realize it's not exactly the the same thing, but close. Personally i like white the color over black. But the glossy outside and grey inside are cheap and tacky. If they made it all white on the inside, and matte white on the outside. like the black one. It would have been great. The design of the icebook got increasingly worse over its lifespan, in the interest of keeping costs down, they used cheaper materials. (see the first g3 icebook interior vs the g4 icebook.) They just used the same stuff. I mean its not bad buy any means, but the point is its not as good as it can be. thank god they didn't do gloss black.

BTW: why does everyone refer to it as $150 difference. It's $200

When you bump up the hard drive in the White Macbook to 80GB like the black one, you have to add $50. ;)

I got the black one for one reason alone, I can't stand the white one. Looks like and reminds me of the original ibook. I thought the ibook was a toy. The black one reminds me of my old pismo which I loved.

You only spend the $200 once. You see your macbook everyday for years. No brainer.

Black was the new beige... White was the new black... Silver was the new white... and now black is the new silver. The new macbook pro will be beige. LOL!

I agree.

I personally like the white one but if I liked the black I'd cough up the extra $150-200, whatever for the black one.

Some people are just cheap, I mean you'd can't even buy a good bottle of wine for $150.

.

Good God no, it's not worth it....but damn it's one sexy beast that I am buying soon enough....here apple...$150 premium and all....purrrdy:D  :D

Short answer No, I ordered a white one because I think they look awesome so it was easy for me to decide. I feel sorry for those who really like the black one more but understand how stupid it is to pay an extra 200 clams for it.

i have a black one, but the black one comes with a bigger hardrive, maybe its not all of the premium but is anyone taking that into consideration?

If you have the money then sure. I bought a black one myself, I think it looks old school and it reminds me of the pismo in some ways. I don't quite understand why the black one costs more, black nanos don't, but it's what I wanted so I paid for it.

Oh that's right, the reason the black ones cost more is because apple realizes that people are going to want them and are going to be willing to pay for them. That is why they've been selling so fast.
