i voted 2 and 3. its always safer to start fresh. plus it feels like even more of a new phone if you do. its easy to re-arrange apps for like 2 minutes. any youd have to sync music anyways.

I agree Fresh is the way to go, but then you have to add all the mail account (i dont sync email accounts with my MacBook), and when i did a fresh start from iPhone edge to 3Gs, i lost all the data in my apps (progress in games and info in utility and productivity apps).
It's fun to start Angry Birds from the beginning again 🙂
Since it was a new phone I selected to format as a new phone. Sort of spring cleaning and went through every app and song before I opted to sync..

Had issues with restore from backup so I did a second, clean restore and started fresh. It was tough to recreate 2+years of stuff, but it was worth it to get around bugs like proximity sensor.
