I'm not real fond of the Finder either. For me it is a key part of the interface and should be able to do a lot more than it does now.
 
mostly I use the List view, but on occasion I use all of them. I find coverflow to be useful when I'm looking at pictures & images
 
Rows to rows. It's funny how bad cover flow is. Really nice for eye candy but totally not functional.
