Finally, this trend is here! I am debating with myself if I should get the Silver or Gold.
I have SG since iPhone 5. I had silver for iPhone 4 and 4s. I saw the SG Max at the store and I don't like it. You can see the fingerprints all over the back of the phone. I cannot stand that.
Now it left me 2 choices: Silver or Gold. I am trying to see them on the cases, but still cannot decide!
1 million question!

why not a lot of people get silver? Are there any flaws?

I guess with the black front and silver frames, it looks too similar to the now "old" iPhones 6s, 6, and as such, people would prefer something as different/new as possible.

I had the JB iPhone 7+ because at the time, it was new and I wanted something as different as possible. 2 years later, I craved for change, and as such, I have a Silver iPhone XS now. Have absolutely no regrets :)

In my humble opinion, the silver stainless steel makes it look more classy and timeless, whereas the Space Grey looks more like a gadget - nothing wrong with this, just taste. :)

I would prefer the back to be dark but the silver edge looks best to me and that’s visible when I’m holding the phone. My 6 and 6S were space gray because I hated the white bezels on the other colours (I also hated the gold and pink finishes but really liked the silver) so it’s nice to be able to get silver now.

I wanted space grey. I still look longingly at the space greys. But I went with silver because it can be polished, whereas if the space grey scratches you are stuck with it. I have it in a black leather Apple case, so you can’t really even tell it’s a silver, apart from the small strip at the bottom where the case is open.

I wasn’t sure what to get this time, I opted for silver X last year but after bit of a daring move, I decided to pre order Gold XS Max and now after a few days of use I’m loving this new gold color.

I still have my silver X and having both next to each other, Gold max is a clear winner (just my opinion).

But no matter what color you go for, you can’t go wrong if you are upgrading to Max. It’s has such a beautiful display and it’s a perfect screen size for someone who spends many hours a day on the phone.

Cheers!

I'm completely with you Nell, I absolutely always hated the white front of the iPhone. It's taste, but never was a fan. Also consider through in terms of the X, unless you go naked, the back of the phone doesnt really matter anymore because it'll be hidden in a case.

Think of the Silver X/XS as a throwback to iPhone 3G/3GS - that one had a white option where the front bezels were black, but the back was white. I was a fan of that one, and am now very happy with my Silver XS.

My first iPhone was a white 3GS but I always slightly wished I’d chosen the black one! This time I think silver is the right choice because I’m really not keen on the dark edge of the space gray one.

As you say, the back is invisible in a case and I use a case while I’m at work because the phone is in and out of my jeans pocket constantly and the environment is dirty (I teach at an art school) but I tend to go caseless in my own time. Still don’t see the back when I’m holding the phone though so it’s kind of irrelevant, I’d just prefer a dark back, I think.

Thank you for the insight. I had silver iPhone before and I don't like the white on the front. Now it's a different story since the silver Xs Max has a black front. I think Im going to get silver this time. I like gold, but too many people got it lol. Thanks again

Had the Silver iPhone X, and I absoloutley loved it. It was my first silver/white iPhone since the iPhone 4s (Gold 5s, Gold 6, Rose Gold 6s, Jet Black 7). It truly was a statement in design, and absolutely looked timeless and endlessly futuristic at the same time. When i decided to get the Xs (and I honestly was split pretty heavily about keeping my X, going to the Xs, or XR) I was full on board for the gold. The keynote and promotional pieces truly made it look stunning, and in person it’s clear that they still don’t do the color justice. IMHO, the gold is an elevated version of the silver. If the silver is a timeless piece of technology, the gold is a luxurious, shimmering, deep, creamy, satiny piece of jewelry. I love it even more than silver.

Silver XS 64GB + White Series 4.

Have been using black iPhone and black watch for many years. Nice with white/silver for a change.

I went with Silver for a few reasons:
  • I have a SS Apple Watch and it may seem silly, but I like how the SS band on the silver model matches the watch.
  • The Space Black SS doesn’t look premium to me, it looks like plastic. I guess you just don’t see shiny black metal that often.
  • I’m color blind and the iPhone 8/X/XS shade of Space Grey glass doesn’t look gray to me as much as brown in most lighting conditions. I bought a space grey iPhone 8 and didn’t like the color at all.

Honestly, the white front was the only thing that kept me away from colors in the past, it’s refreshing having a non-black device that still has a black bezel. However, I would LOVE a true black back like the iPhone 4 with a stainless steel band. That would be awesome.

Silver XS, I wanted the same look as my SS watch. I think it’s pays homage to many generations of iPhone design. I used to have a 3GS in white, I loved that phone. I also love the glass back as it reminds me of the 4 series. I never liked the white fronts of the 5 or 6 series. So that meant getting black or space grey. Nice to change!
