Too soon. And no way this should be commercialized. EVER.

But if it weren't commercialized, how could we possibly reclaim it into the cycle of capital? Since the day of, the attacks have been rendered a disgusting mix of history and marketing. Capital needs to finalize the artificiality of the thing (to literally produce it) in order to get us to buy it.

Such that:

How can we understand unless that understanding is rooted in pre-packaged exploitation, ideally in the form of a "Freedom Mobile" Happy Meal toy?

Such that:

As if Pearl Harbor wasn't bloodlees enough.

I don't really mind that they're making a movie of it as long as it is as close to factual as possible and doesn't have any kind of agenda. Besides, I find it curious that the (mostly) Republicans that are crying foul about this film are the same ones that practically wrapped themselves in a 9/11 blanket for the 2004 elections.

this isn't a movie about who's plane hit who and which government did what and what the passengers did and any other conspiracy crap.

this is true story about two police officers who were just trying to help, they didnt care who's fault and who did it, they just wanted to help.

but yes i do agree it's too early and they're just following the 9/11 movie bandwagon.

And do you do this every time a CIA sponsored coup takes place? Like putting Saddam in power? Or a death and torture squad is trained at the School Of Americas? How about a bumper ziploc of Abu Ghraib photos? Or when an American missile wings its way from Israel into a Palestinian refugee camp? Or a photo of the suicides at Guantanimo?

This is not Amerika bashing. It's just that your gift for posterity is meaningless in isolation. Your children must learn that we all have to make demands on our governments to behave better and that means showing them the stuff we do that is shameful too. And we both have so much to be ashamed of.

Ummm....true. But its not like i ever said im not going to teach my kids that america isnt perfect. And dont give me that sarcasm **** about Abu Ghraib and all that. Its HISTORY for this country and im simply preserving some of it for myself.

I think itd be history for your country too if someone flew planes into the Eiffel Tower and bombed the Arc de Triumph.

i felt a bit bothered when i saw a commercial for it. personally, i find it very disapointing that hollywood decided that we needed a movie like this. they better give all of the money they make from it to the families who lost someone in the ordeal

no need to get hyper, he was making an innocent comment. i may aggree with your comment, but its not warranted here

just started seeing commercials for it after i saw this thread.

i won't see it in theaters, didn't see the other one either. i hate nicholas cage too, so that doesn't help. but i may well rent it at some point (netflix).

i'm not sure how i feel that the movie was made... in terms of the commercialization of tragedy and such. as that's been going on forever.

I don't think anybody should be making money out of this. It's terrible. How would you feel if your partner was killed by terrorists, and then somebody made a film out of it and started making money?

No no no, that's not the way to go about things...

So BACK OFF and LIGHTEN UP!

Should my relatives NOT have saved newspaper clippings about Pearl Harbor?

says the one yelling..

the point was that history is made up of many pieces, good, bad, and ugly, and that to only include the emotionally heart wrenching bits isn't good. but as the original poster (who collects the clippings) has already said, he/she don't plan to leave out the other stuff (i think).

these 9-11 movies are so pointless to be doing at this point. I'm not saying doing movies about horrific events is pointless. I think they are very important to teach people about events that happened before they were born, but really, 9-11 was 5 years ago.

Who needs a reminder? 5-10 year olds?

Then again if I was scrapping the bottom of the barrel as hollywood is I might be exploiting things as well.

Its still very important to tell people of the evils of Adolf Hitler and that was a long f$#@ing time ago.
