Poor Battery life on IOS 5... Try this

I've been testing this for the last 3 or 4 days and its improved my battery life so i thought id share this with you guys.

It looks like looks like the "Setting Time Zone" Location Service has a bug in it which cause it to be active all the time. Once i disabled this my battery life improved

Settings
Location Services
System Services
Setting Time Zone
Turn off.

I have every other services on and my current usage is.

location turns off your location services if you use something like four square you will have to turn location back on.. Time zone turns of the option to update the correct time via the internet. that shouldn't draw to much battery life though.
 
I noticed that apps such as LockInfo were running location/GPS services while on the lockscreen. It appears to be due to the OEM Weather app using auto locate. Disabling Weather within Location Services will stop recurring GPS use when you are checking your lockscreen status updates.

It shouldn't draw to much battery life that is true but from some reason it was always active on my phone and after turning it off my iPhone battery is lasting alot longer.

I would be interested to know if other people agree? I also have 4 mates testing this too and will report back with there findings.

I guess one way to test it is to see if the purple arrow is always displaying when this service is running as it showed up alot of my device and when I checked it was always the the time zone service.
 
This is an iOS 5 bug that Apple missed with the update even though it was widely reported as a battery drain issue a few months back. The service should check with 3G towers occasionally to check the timezone but it's actually doing it near constantly, check the arrow next to it and it always shows purple meaning it's been used in the last hour. Disabling it does help battery life.
 
lol i just turned everything off in that entire section.. no issues thus far with battery!
 
This has been known for months, Apple geniuses will even disable it.

Still not satisfied with my battery life, after getting a replacement iPhone and a replacement battery... Not even got any more then 5 applications installed right now along with my JB so I can see how it is. I took it off charge 39 minutes ago, 23 minutes has been usage apparently. Only actually used it for like 4 of those... Things like facebook, messages, whatsapp are open in MT bar.

Though my battery usage keeps changing to '-' instead of a number.. Not sure why :S Never did this before JB

It changes to "-" because you probably resprung after charging to 100% If you respring, the usage statistics will disappear and turn into dashes until the next time you charge to phone to 100%
 
Location service Iads! who really needs this one any way..

Find it in Settings -> Location Services -> System Services -> Turn off Diagnostics & Usage, Location-Based iAds, and Setting Time Zone
 
I think mine gets updated every day, not every our because my arrow is always grey. Not sure if I should turn it off since my battery life is pretty good and once a day doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.

Oh is that what it is, what a nightmare. Ok thanks :)
 
I turned mine off a while back and it helped alot. I also turned off the raise to speak option in SIRI.

5.0.1 with everything else on. E-mail push, wifi, 3G
