Yes. From what I can tell, Disney is the most dominant studio using 7.1 in iTunes right now.

Your right. I see some iTunes Movies at 7.1 like some Blu-Rays. I wonder if Handbrake or IVI can pass through 7.1 for conversion? Has anyone tried yet?

Try it by converting a chapter instead of the whole movie. If you choose DTS-HD/TrueHD pass-thru, it should pass the audio which is typically 7.1.

But aTV 4 with native software can only play back Dolby Digital+ 7.1 audio (EAC-3). No dice with DTS.
Subler already supports EAC-3 audio track as well as HEVC video track pass-through.
HandBrake for Mac does not provide at least conversion of DTS-HD 7.1 into aTV-compatible DD+ 7.1 track.

Pretty sure ATV 4 can playback DD. All you'd have to do is convert from the HD audio format to the 7.1 option in the drop down menu of the Audio tab.

True, but in previous post you mentioned DTS-HD/TrueHD. These are no good on aTV. With native tvOS at least.
Seems that there are ways to encode into EAC-3 :

You are correct about DTS audio (which is why I don't use ATV). Not sure about Dolby TrueHD. Regardless, both HD audio formats are in 7.1 (typically) so you'd just have to choose the 7.1 encode option in the audio tab of Handbrake. AC-3 or eAC-3 shouldn't matter since both are supported on the ATV 4.

No dice on HB for Mac. It doesn't even recognise, the source has 7.1 channel setup :(
