Have you actually seen the engineering in the link bracelet? It is definitely not a $10 steel band... £449 is too high granted, maybe more £200, but calling it a $10 band is a little over the top.
I have a series 0 sport and so far I can easily say I have 0 scratches. Unless apple made the new watch with cheaper glass, I would expect the same level of durability
The cost of materials and labor is no where close to $100 so they are making around $300 in net profit on the links? $250 is the most I would spend on the Links band which I do like.

while you might not have scratches it still Gorilla glass type glass and can be scratched easier than Sapphire.
I'm not denying that, all I'm saying is that its very durable.while you might not have scratches it still Gorilla glass type glass and can be scratched easier than Sapphire.
Maybe not the materials and labour, but a shed load of R&D went into that link bracelet I bet. I'd be happy paying £200 for it as it is pure quality.
Yeah I am including R&D costs into my $100 estimate .... maybe a little more. I doubt it would cost more than $150 in R&D, labor and materials .... Knowing Apple and the Apple Tax
I'm assuming one should not swim with the watch if it has screen protector on it? Would it cause it to peel?
Oh yeah, there is of course the Apple tax added! Still nice, even though I can't afford to get one for my new watch.
Yeah I would love one but I don't want to pay $450 to make my watch $1,100 dollars or so.
I only use this because there is no sleep tracking. As soon as that's added, it will be buy buy Fitbit.
I tried them and they all suck. It's not the same as a native sleep tracking app. One that tracks automatically. There are 3rd party apps that does sleep tracking.

Considering the cost there are quite a few basic things that the Apple Watch doesn't do. Maybe OS4?![]()
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sleep-watch-auto-sleep-monitor/id1138066420?mt=8I think there is one that tracks automatically. I'll edit this post if I find it.
I do hope Apple adds it eventually. Also, maybe you could leave feedback.

Same here. I wear mine every day. No scratches. I just try to avoid bumping it. If I know there is a chance I will scratch it. I just take it off then put it on afterwards.
It's amazing how many people are incredibly careful and suddenly scratches appeared. The watch made it all the way from China to your country and managed to stay scratch free. The moment you put it on! scratches start to appear! (obviously it got bumped!).
Reminds me of a laptop repair I did before. The screen was scratched and cracked. I got a note saying the screen had been really well looked after and watching YouTube it started to crack! (hmmmm!). It got send back with no repair!
I refuse to buy the SS one. I got an Orient watch made from stainless steel (case and band) and sapphire crystal. It cost me £60 brand new from Kyoto, Japan. The profit margin for Apple must be humongous! they have enough money but still want to make even more money. Nothing more than greed!
How can Apple charge £449 for a stainless watch band? It's nuts!

Yes, it's costly. But then again, As stated previously, the Saphirre display is worth it and most who own the stainless model, will contest to its durability over a cheap plastic screen protector. Which I think degrades the overall look in my opinion.
And the stainless Model, if taken care of, has a much higher resale value over the Sport Watch.
$200.00 might be a steep increase for some, but if one can appreciate the weight, it's much more appealing and has a premium aesthetic appeal.
I understand everyone views things differently. I predict the Apple Watch could easily last four years, assuming the OS updates are supported.
The same reason they can charge $70 for a back-only silicone and plastic case for the iPad Pro: it's what the market will bear.
agreed. but it could just as easily be sold for £199 too (and still provide a healthy margin)Apple's authentic stainless steel link band is very exquisite. The price tag is high, but the engineering behind the removable links is ingenious. When it was first released, Apple mentioned it takes approximately 9/10 hours to make per strap. It's incredibly thin and lightweight.
Not true! You get much more of your money back (% wise) from a sport model.
don't think these watches could last anywhere near 4 years!

yes, a large number will pay those prices, but its gouging.
Rip off accessories are not a major problem - plenty of 3rd party options available

Can you explain how the Sport Model would have a better resale value over the stainless Model? How is that not true? The Stainless model uses a More premium casing and has the Saphirre display. Your statement doesn't make sense, when considering the cost to manufacture the materials.
I think if the Apple Watch is Continuingly supported through Watch OS updates, the hardware could easily manage 3/4 years. Also, Apple's hardware last longer than most competitors.

Cost of manufacture doesn't matter in the resale market. Only thing that matters is what buyers are willing to pay. In general, premium models tend to lose value more than the cheaper models. Like, when you buy new iPhones, additional storage costs +$100. But people buying used won't pay an extra $100 for the additional storage.
To each their Own. When I sold my Stainless Gen 1 Watch, I sold it in pristine condition and walked away with $400.00 with an additional Watch band. It's dependent on locating the right buyer. No two situations will be the same. I keep all my Apple products in pristine condition and always have earned exactly what I offered to sell it for. Perhaps I have been more fortunate than others, but my experiences have been positive. Again, every selling experience is different. Private sales earn more than online in some respects.
I must say i totally agree with him about the SS AW not having a better resale value than the sport, i paid $600+ for my 42MM SS AW and i am very disappointed to see them selling for no more than $250 if your lucky. The sport i have seen sold for upward $200-295 i should have bought the space grey 42mm instead
my 42mm SS, also at the moment the display as been dieing i am only able to see the display at night this going into 18month of owing it. There is also a tiny scratch on the corner of the display from my hitting it up against something in my shop. The AW lasting more than 4years to me would be a stretch, then your apple care is up after 2years anyway, so to me for these reason i think the sport is a better buy. Most people only buy the sport for these reasons as well it just a better valve over all.
Very fortunate for you, because i don't see them any where used for that prize even at close to $300 they are hard to sell especially with the Gen 2 being out now.
See my post above. But I truly do believe it depends on condtion and locating the right buyer. I'm not desperate to sell my Apple products at the first buyer that comes along. If I can sell it for what I have it listed for, then that's a plus for me. I understand not everyone will be as willing to pay a certain price. Also, I refuse to sell online with all the current fraud, which is why I resort to private party only. And in all likeliness, you can make in private resale.
That said, the Sport model may be the more affordable choice and it's a preference for those who want the lightweight for fitness or because it's cheaper. But when I purchase any Watch for that matter, I prefer the sapphire display for obvious reasons. Also, even I couldn't sell it for whatever reason, I will wear the Apple Watch until it's no longer useful, being they seem to last fairly a long time.
If the Watch can be supported through the next three years with OS updates, that would be great. But time will tell. It really depends on how advanced theses Watches become With additional sensors. You can only expand so far with notifications and battery life. But knowing how long Apple products last, I'm hoping for at least three years, being I really enjoy my Apple Watch.

Fortunate indeed. Or plain lucky too. But this was also a few months ago before Series 1/2 launched.
