the mini 4 is excellent in terms of hardware, surprising deep base and full speakers and almost like holding a piece of cardboard, but what are apple thinking in terms of iOS ?

--> try switching the keyboard from full to split or visa versa - the lag and stutter is embarrassing -

I remember using the first iPad the os was totally smooth with no lags - the original rubber band springing effect when you slid to the left , never a frame dropped, it gave you such confidence in the os and it made the machine feel so polished.

Apple really need to polish iOS, since the move away from skeuomorphism there have been lags and stutters all over - I don't think Steve would be happy or have allowed iOS to be released like this.

you considered maybe just your model has issues and it isnt system wide?

I just yesterday bought an iPad mini 4 and made the mistake of restoring from an iCloud backup. Had storage issues for hours until I finally gave up, wiped it and set up as a new iPad.
Worst setup experience I've had so far. I usually don't like to restore from a backup and definitely won't do it in the future because of all the issues it causes.

Maybe your issues have something to do with restoring from backup?

I bought an iPad mini 4 too last month :)
hmm, I noticed some stutter once in a while too.
However when I just tried to split the keyboard, no stutter.

I don't think it's a hardware issue. If you do it more often the stutter is gone. I think it's a combination of the CPU 'in rest' and the way iOS is handling resources.

It was the same on the rmbp and Mavericks if I remember correctly.

While iOS does a much better job at ram management than Android. It isn't perfect, but I recently read about a way of clearing your ram without restarting the phone and I don't mean with an App. Hold down the power button until the slide to turn off comes on the screen. Then hold your finger on the home button, don't push it, just rest your finger on it until the screen bounces back to the main screen. You'll find the iPad or iPhone is now a bit more snappy.

hmm...Don't you think your expectation is high?

I think the split keyboard is going away. Too neglected and buggy. And not present on the iPad pro, the device that would need it more than any other. I don't think it will survive iOS10

no, something as basic as the keyboard splitting in two should not cause major issues and stutter considering how powerful the hardware is now - I mean the split keyboard animation was totally smooth a few years ago with lesser hardware - it has to be a lack of optimisation with the new iOS - and I have no idea how other people are claiming it's smooth - I have an iPad air and its laggy as hell on that also - maybe some people are just not very perceptive regarding frame rates, but its so obviously laggy and bad

I was amazed that the iPad pro can't split keyboard, which makes me suspect apple can't at the moment run the split keyboard animation without it lagging and stuttering badly, so they just scrapped it for the pro release as it would be too embarrassing. You're holding a 13" iPad and you can't split the keyboard to type in your startup details, so you have to hold it in one hand and peck with the other - really surprisingly bad intro to a new device

Indeed...but hey...our expectations are too high...

I believe almost everyone will experience this. Maybe you should try reducing transparency first.

Thats strange. I had a Mini 4 for 2 weeks and it was smooth as glass, just too small for my eyes.

LOL what a crazy issue to drag Steve out of the grave for.. (not that there's a good one, but wow)

Air 2 has stutter with the split keyboard as well. Try scrolling these forums with the split keyboard open, i.e. like you are trying to reply to a post and have to scroll up to quote it. Make it a "regular keyboard" and it scrolls very smooth. Also scrolls very smooth if reduced transparency is turned ON.
