Pop Up Folders/drawers on Desktop?

Ages ago in a previous Mac OS...pre dock? surely not OS9...I can't recall..
you could drag a folder window to the side/bottom of the screen and it would nest there as a tab you could click and the window would pop open, then you could close it back.

Is there an app that anyone knows that duplicates this function?

You could put an alias of the folder into the dock. Or am I misunderstanding you?

I don't want it in the dock. I want it where I want it in my large amount of screen real estate.

I found Pop-Up windows, which isn't quite what I'm looking for, BUT, it's very close.
