Any recommendations for the best way to block popups on iMacs such as constant annoyance on Safari sites?

Got several good ones that seem to be doing the job. Adblock plus working. Spouses computer on someones list, but I think problem is fixed. Safari extensions is the answer. All the popups started immediately upon updating to Sierra, so the new software must have locked out the previous add blocking.

You might be interested in trying Chrome with uBlock Origin + uBlock Origin Extra -formally web socket (2 separate extensions)! - it uses a fraction of the resources of the more common adblockers, and works stupidly well. The advanced options to utilize experimental filters is nice also, as some of them are very useful. It works so well and uses so few resources that you might find yourself using Chrome more than Safari.

I am guessing you already did this, but you may want to run Malwarebytes as well for good measure - there are quite a few adware programs for Mac going around currently that cause annoying popups.
