So I'm new to AirPods, so if this is a known thing, forgive. If I open the case of my APP while holding them on the right side of my iPhone Xs, or in front of my iPhone, the battery popup shows up. If I hold the case on the left side of my iPhone, it does not appear. Is that normal? I experience no issues with my APP, so I don't think there is anything wrong with them.
