Pretty accurate for my Model Y. I hate the UI, and their music player is barely functional. Every day I have to reboot because Apple Music stops working and I get "choose media source" - sometimes pressing the steering wheel button will work, sometimes switching to a different input and back will work, but most of the time a reboot is required. I love my Y, but the UI and bugs are absolutely infuriating. I want CarPlay support.

It's actually Apple's fault.

I've integrated MusicKit.js into a client's webapp and the SDK is extremely buggy. It's likely even worse in cars since the cellular reception isn't as stable as the already unstable phone cellular service.

I hope other car makers follow their lead. It's a pain to go back and forth and probably unsafe

better than tesla's buggy, barely functional UI. wish tesla had carplay support.
What? Lol. I own a Tesla and the UI works perfectly fine.

I do wish it had CarPlay, but to call it “barely functional” is a complete lie.

And if you’re referring to Apple Music integration, that’s on Apple not Tesla.

I logged a ticket with Tesla, and they acknowledged it as a bug in their app to be fixed in a future release. Other people have the same issue with Spotify, so the issue is not just with Apple.

Ok.
There are other threads on Teslamotorsclub, reddit, etc. where people gripe about the same "choose media source" issue with Spotify as well as Apple Music. Tesla acknowledged it as a firmware bug.

When I have to reboot my car daily to simply listen to music, that's barely functional.

Yep. Interactive displays down in the dashboard are neat for things you might adjust while you're parked. But for anything there's any need to use while driving, it needs to be done with controls one can easily operate by feel alone, without looking.

Spotify has worked better than Apple Music from my experience. Spotify still isn't perfect by any means, but noticeably better.

Now if only Porsche could figure out the programming in the 963 electric motors and get more power to the ground to be competitive.

Wait, so… the "Clever New App Integration" is that they built an app for iOS that runs inside CarPlay, which in turn runs inside their system?
System in a system in another system. Haha. It's a workaround and a stopgap, for sure. Hopefully this is remedied with next gen carplay and automakers more fully integrating carplay into their systems (I don't want to see your ****** dock with ****** icons taking up valuable screen real estate).

My ideal car would be one with the large, high quality multi touch display a Tesla has and Apple’s software controlling it. In the world we exist in though, Tesla’s wins over Apple. I’ve yet to see a car with CarPlay that doesn’t use a janky bargain bin one finger only display. Tesla on the other hand only has some pain points, and it appears to get better every day.

And while we all marvel at how amazing or silly this might be... the accountants at Porsche are laughing all the way to the bank as they reduce their build costs by eliminating more amenities from the interior... all controls are now performed from the center console screen/car play display. LOL. Oh and if your seat doesn't recline... call Apple Care!

Because "I can't wait to try this out on my Mercedes XYX Class" would have made sense. Which set of owners would be most interested in seeing if this functionality is available for their cars.

I hear you.

It boggles my mind that Honda doesn't provide this functionality in my 2011 Fit

Touchscreen hellscape.
Only if that's the only way to do these things. Physical controls are always best in cars, but it can be nice to have an alternative way to perform certain functions, and this looks thoughtful and stylishly restrained.

I wonder if it can control the central vent using Siri. That'd be an improvement.

If you hate the UI in a Model Y most likely you are the issue.

Went though those pains for years with Spotify. It's been solid for the last 8+ months, but I know what you mean dealing with the streaming apps. Outside of that, I never get UI bugs. In four years, by display as rebooted once randomly.

Yea, to clarify, the rest of the car's UI is fine. When I say I hate the UI, I'm referring to the media player only. That's why I want CarPlay. In my other cars I've never had any issues playing media. This is the first and only time I've struggled to get a media player to play music. If I could have CarPlay for navigation, music, messaging, etc. and then the Tesla UI for everything else, I would be extremely happy. Since the latest versions of CarPlay can play nicely nicely with EV charging/routing (https://jalopnik.com/porsche-reminds-everyone-carplay-evs-can-coexist-1850449674) there's little reason to use Tesla's nav, if they would only support CarPlay.

I love my Y, it's an amazing car. But now that NACS is being adopted by other EV manufacturers, I will likely cross shop other manufacturers like Polestar and Porsche (Macan EV) for my next vehicle.

I have a 2022 Macan GTS. When I return from a trip this week we shall see. Not holding my breath.
Good thing I didn't hold my breath. For now, the features are only available on the new 2024 Cayenne.

Not planning on holding my breath.
