Port between USB and Headphone?

On my Macbook, what is this port between my USB's and my Headphone ports? It looks like a headphone jack, but the image above it is something I've never seen before. (Took me 3 months to begin to worry about it 🙂)

It's an audio line in port for your microphone, etc.

your microphone is faulty?

Probably because a line in requires line level signal, which most microphones do no supply without running the mic through a pre amp of some kind.

The solution is to use a USB mic or use a pre amp.
