Those NMVe blades are surelly compact, but are they reliable as a spinner?

For longevity. No. Like all flash storage they have limited lifespan and limited write cycles.

Good ones tend to fail in a readable state but it’s no guarantee.

But they have benefits, speed, noise, impact resistance, etc.

Thanks guys, so the best solution would be a spinner inside a 2.5” enclosure with a USB-C port 😉

I still think a spinner as a portable drive is a bad idea. Far less durable than solid state.

The intention is that when they fail. They can be read so data can be recovered but not written to.

But relying on it to fail correctly isn’t wise.

Amazon has the Samsung T7 1TB for $90 and it comes with both A and C cables.
Also, the 2 TB for $150 and the 2TB Shield for $160. Those are not bad prices.
US prices.
