Hi, to keep it simple: Im coming out of contract with verizon and need a new phone to replace my 4 year old POS phone :D Im not much of a phone user at all so want a pay as I go plan. Pay as you go phones dont really fit my needs though. Would like to jailbreak an iphone and use a prepaid AT&T sim card in it.

    ...But.....

Heres the tricky part: Is it possible to port over my current verizon cell phone # to the iphone even though I do not plan on activating the iphone the "legit" way, rather, I plan to jailbreak it?

Im a complete phone noob, im sure this has something to do with where the phone # is stored, but i`ve no clue. For instance, if the phone # is stored in the sim card then I should be able to just go buy a cheap $40 phone with a pay as I go sim card, and just chuck that in the iphone. How does this work?

Any ideas how to go about this? Please advise. Phone is broken and need to make a decision quickly. Got an ipod touch ad love it so would like the iphone but can not justify going into a 2 year contract and paying $59.99 for a phone I wont use *that* much.

    Thanks!

In short: Is it possible or not to port an existing cell phone number over for use on a jailbroken iphone, I want to get a prepaid sim card and put it in the iphone. Can not afford to lose old cell phone #. How do I do this?

Most likely you will not be able to port number to pay as you go plan. You should ask AT&T.

I talked to my friend who works at tmobile today and he said you can port a number on pay as you go, so perhaps with AT&T as well (Would rather use at&t for iphone, not tmobile)..so I`ll call and ask them.

However....if possible, do I just take out that sim card and put it in the iphone?? I guess that is all I need to know now. Thanks for the response

All US iPhones, if activated (you can jailbreak and activate at the same time) will work with any sim card from AT&T.

If you want it to work with non AT&T then it gets much trickier.
