As the subject suggests, I'm in a situation where I would be porting a number within 30 days of its activation, I was wondering if anyone knew if this can be done or not? Will AT&T not allow me to port that number? or what could be the implications apart from the maximum ETF charge ($325 I believe) which I'm prepared to pay.

AT&T should let you do that no problem. Also, if you're device was on a contract you will have an ETF as you stated. However if you were on an installment plan (pay monthly for phone) then you will have to pay the remaining balance of your phone.
