Same issue on the top part of the screen ...

Had the same issue starting this weekend. The top part of the screen stopped working. Noticed it in Safari, email, SMS, Voicemail -- so guessing it isn't application dependent at this point.

Went to the Apple Store they asked me to restore the software and try resetting it, which I did. No luck.

Yesterday, they took it in for repair and gave me a loaner and charged me $30. Not sure how to tell which series the phone is, 5 or 7 but will look it up online. I can't imagine this is something that is easily repairable so think they might send me a new one as they have done for others.

Either way it is a bummer on what is otherwise an amazing little device.

Thanks.

Finally had chance to pick up my "repaired" phone last night. It came in Wednesday but I was out of town until Sunday. It was a brand new one. The box it comes in is pretty cool ... looks like a much slimmer version of the regular box.

iPhone "Dead Zone" Screens -- More Trouble Ahead?

The posts in this forum have been picked up by a lot of news organizations.

Apparently, the few instances of screen failures are being used as a platform to ridicule the iPhone.

Classic short raid! Look at the posts and see how many are using it as an opportunity to bash the product. Sign in as a different user multiple times and say yeah I have that problem also!! Amazing it dropped the stock as much as it did. Mine works great and has been life changing. iphone is here to stay, shorts need to move on to a better target. Rimm :p perhaps??

I had the dead screen issue develop on my launch day iPhone last week. Mine ended up going dead at the top, about the 2nd line down. Had no problem typing but I couldn't call my #2 and #3 favorites down, couldn't check my #2 email, and like 3 or 4 keys on the keyboard while in landscape were unresponsive. Spoke with the phone support people at 1-800-myiphone, and they made me an appointment at the Apple store. Took it in and came prepared for being without the phone a week or an immediate swap out and thankfully, although the genius said he wasn't supposed to, he swapped me out for a new one. Still kind of getting used to the brighter screen (I went from a 7 screen to a 5) but definitely very grateful to not be without an iPhone.

Didn't get much acknowledgement that the people I dealt with had seen or heard about the issue but they were supportive regardless. Doesn't sound like it's that widespread, but at least it seems that they're dealing with it all around.

I had this problem with my iPhone, the top inch or so went unresponsive while I was on vacation and it really upset me. I had no way to turn the phone off on the plane home, I could reset it but not turn completely off because I could not operate the slider. I could not put it into airplane mode because I could not operate the slider for the airplane mode setting. I could not take the battery out of it either since it is not removable. Thankfully my plane did not crash into the side of a mountain. My experience with the genius bar left me unhappy. They charged me $30 to rent a loaner phone and sent out my phone for repair. I find it completely wrong that they charged me $30 to rent a phone AND put a $600 hold on my credit card. I agree with the $600 hold but they are charging me $30 because they put out a faulty product, this is ridiculous. I am quite upset with this and expected to be taken care of better by Apple.

Same Problem, HOWEVER...

After 4 months of usage i got the same problem, dead strip in the bottom of the screen. However, my iPhone is unlocked. its a 1.0.2 version jailbroken and unlocked. before i go to Apple store, i will restore it to the original sittings, unfortunately i can not "virginize" becuase i can not use installer because the dead strip at the buttom, and also i will not be able to activate as well.

The question is will apple replace/repair mine under warranty?

I'm a lucky one now that just go this problem... got the latest software, havnt done a single "hacky" thing to it. Part of the top of the screen doesnt respond to my touch. Its frustrating as all heck.

I bought it at an ATT store on launch day in Virginia. I now live in Pennsylvania. Do you think the Apple store would replace it or do I have to go to an ATT store?

Only Apple does the repairs.

You can either take it to an Apple Store (be sure to make a Genius Bar appt. online before you go to the store) or call the 1-800 number for repair.

I know someone who had the exact same problem, but their's was in the top left of the screen. They had it swapped out at an Apple store with no questions asked. I also had a problem with the housing of my iPhone and the genius said it was not an isolated case but was worse than usual. They swapped it out for a brand new one... again, no questions asked.

same thing just happened to my 2g iphone. i got it as a gift and there was no receipt. it is also unlocked because i just put my old sim card in it and got the unlimited data plan. does any of this matter if I take it into the apple store?

just took it into the apple store today. they hooked it up and told me that it was out of warranty, however it was part of a specific range of serial numbers that had that same problem. so they swapped it out for free and im picking it up wednesday!

So i have a Prob

So i was reading the post and they all said they took there fones to the store but i bought mine through a friend and im not going through at&T im doing tmobile so what do i do now? like my O and W dont work when i do the landscape more T_T Help?

The worst part is I cannot unlock my phone. The "Slide to Unlock" doesn't work. So I cannot answer a call if I get one.

My ipod just recently started doing this, but on the WHOLE SCREEN. I'm in desperate need of help. I cracked my screen not too long ago and replaced it myself......:confused::confused:

Verify the cable that connects the screen. Sometimes they'll pop out and then no input from the screen will register.
