I pretty much come here solely to seek help with problems, so I thought it would be refreshing to begin this post with happy news!
In the past, my best syncing results have been immediately following updates to both devices, and this past weekend I did that again.
When I say "best syncing results" that's never been a complete success, but this is the first time that all my album artwork synced!
I was putting off updating the Mini to Sonoma, but since the iPhone was updating I decided to update the Mini as well. The reason behind this was because there were many bugs in my iPhone's Music Library; many artwork fails, many artist sorting fails, and the last straw, multiple albums being split up into separate entries in Album view. That last problem is the recurring problem that I solve by deleting the iPhone's Music Library and then syncing, which at nearly 500 "albums" takes over 4 hours. This time my only fails are with some of the artist sorting.
The sorting fails are still annoying; I like my music library to sort by artist last name, so I edit the album info on the Mini. Not all of that transfers to the iPhone; Adrian Belew sorts in the A's on the iPhone, Brian Auger sorts in the B's, Danny Gatton sorts in the D's, Frank Zappa's solo albums sort in the F's (but the Mothers Of Invention albums sort in the Z's), John McLaughlin & Jimmy Herring sorts in the J's (but all other McLaughlins sort in the M's), Lonnie Smith Trio sorts in the L's, Trio Of Doom sorts in the M's on the iPhone, but I have it in the W's on the Mini, Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood sorts in the S's on the iPhone but I have it in the M's on the Mini, and 2 of my three disk Guitar Heroes various artists compilation discs sort as the first track's artist (by last name?) while disc 3 sorts properly in compilations.
Yes, 39 albums do not sort the way I want them to on the iPhone, but at least all of the artwork is correct!
