Its probably a combination of being able to get away with it and thus make the MacBook more profitable and cementing a stronger relationship with Intel at the expense of customers. Most people don't care but it would have been nice to have a choice.
You seem to be making my point for me.
You didn't really answer my question...
Okay let me summarize.
If Apple can put a dedicated graphics card in a $500 mac mini, and in a $1000 iBook, then Apple should be able to put a dedicated graphics card in a $1500 Macbook.
Make sense?
Perhaps putting a video card in MM and MB doesnt fit in Apple's business plans?
Apple is a commercial company and their point it to make money. This way their profits are maximised, because those who want a video card can get it in a MBP.
Tell me: do you know many people that suffer from the lack of video card in MacBook?
Yes, I'd like to have a dedicated graphics card in my MacBook, but with its screen its not really the best choice to play games on and use Aperture/Motion.
You're right... it doesn't fit into Apple's business plan because Apple wants to make the most profit. So they exploit their position and make users who want a dedicated graphics card pay a minimum of $2000 for a macbook pro.
I think that is unnecessary. And I think Apple should consider adding a dedicated graphics card to the $1500 blackbook for people who want the small form-factor of a macbook, but the ability to run apps that need a little extra graphics power. Since they were able to offer dedicated graphics in machines 1/3 and 1/2 the price, this does not seem like too much to ask.
My bitterness about this topic largely stems from the lack of a 12" PB replacement. But that's been discussed countless times before.
The MacBook has great integrated graphics. Games may run slower, but according to Intel themselves, you can run games like Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 2.

Is this a joke?
Yes it can run CoD2, but running a game and running it smoothly are completely different things...
From my experience, COD2 runs at 5-20 FPS on lowest possible settings on MacBook... and you call it running?![]()
