I am in the WiFi settings and pick my network and enter the password, but the square with dot won't change to the airport symbol in safari etc.

Anyone else having similar probs?

Check to make sure its not a 169 adress in your wifi settings it might say connected but it most likely not

You'll get that if the configuration is invalid (Such as not getting a valid IP Address from the router)
It can also happen with WEP connections if you enter the wrong password - you connect but don't get an IP address so you don't get the connected icon

its not connected no.

im 100% sure the password etc is ok. it gives me an ip address and details in the settings >wi fi> click on network name

Is it giving you an IP Address beginning 169.154? If so, it's a self-assigned IP address. Are you connecting via WEP or WPA? Also, is there any MAC address filtering on the router?
