Looks like fuzz. On a side note my white 3Gs is still prefect no cracks, guess I got lucky.

yea definitely looks like fibers/lint from your pocket or something. even get that now on my 3gs once in a while on the edges.

It's just FUD.

There are no cracks on that iPhone. They were most likely taken out of their boxes the night before for WWDC.

I can't imagine there being such serious case of butter fingers at Apple. That within a few hours a phone develops that man cracks in so many locations.

Every single one of those is fuzz.

Uh yes you did bud, look at the biggest circle. The white fuzz extends onto the frame.

Look at my original post. The big circle isn't mine.

well it seems a bit odd that a brand new phone would have around 5 small cracks and then 1 piece of fuzz that looks just like all the other cracks

Honestly, that would be wonderful if all of these "cracks" were fuzz. No complaints here.

are there any real pics of the front of the white iPhone 4? i.e. not computer generated ones.... i need to see this sensor issue before i order!!!

edit, dont worry, found some

I was already planning on getting the black anyway but i guess this is just another reason. Fingerprints you can wipe away where noticeable hairline scratches you just can't :(

im staying with white
if these really are scratches, they are on the black ones too, if they become a problem on the white, they will become a problem on the black

fingerprints, however, will never become a problem on the white

OP, why do you say that there is no glass there at the edges where the front and back material meet the metal frame? I watched the Apple manufacturing video and as far as I can tell, there is no plastic there. It is a glass front and glass back. This then meets with the metal frame. Where does plastic come into play in this phone. And there is no way these are hairline fractures in glass! Someone please correct me if I am wrong here.

Thickness

Is it me or is there a problem with the thickness of the iPhones in the original pics that were posted in this thread? The press release says that the iPhone 4 is 25% thinner than the 3Gs but looking at those pics the thickness looks identical or maybe just slightly thinner (maybe 5% accounting for the curvature of the 3Gs).

thanks cowsrus, that pic has just made my mind... WHITE baby!!!!

haha no problem, its the same pic that convinced me on white

its 24% thinner from the thickest point on the 3GS
since the new iPhone is flat on the back, you cant compare it to the curves of the 3GS, if you look at the center back of the 3GS in those pictures you can tell the difference, or I believe slashgear's hands on lays a 3GS and an iPhone 4 on a table and shows a horizontal view, and then you can easily tell its 24% thinner

I am getting the white because I like what the white looks like. I don't hunt for, or obsess over scratches.

That Slash Gear pic also confirmed it for me that I want the white.

24% thinner is a very small amount when you are talking about something that is already quite thin.

That's about the depth of the nasty chrome bezel, I'd say that isn't bad!

Naturally the bevelled back on the 3GS was massively wasteful so really, it wasn't hard to find that 25%.

So the question becomes: do you wear black pants or white pants?

No, I think the question becomes "do you treat your phone like a phone?" Because the thing is gonna get scratched up at some point, right? You keep your phone in your pocket, with your keys, and change, and maybe a pen, and maybe a lighter, and who knows what else.

I'm all about keeping things nice, but at some point, you've gotta let it do it's thing.

And it's thing... is being a phone. Not a mantle piece.

;)

phones scratch, if thats all the damage i ever saw on mine i would be quite pleased

look at the 3gs next to it, its all scratched up, but would anybody say it looked terrible? no because that's what happens when you use something, normal wear and tear
Nah, i think it looks pretty terrible :( (ok not terrible, but compared to a iPhone with no scratches, it's terrible). I've kept my iPhone in an invisible shield to prevent just that. Scratches just detract from the looks majorly.

That makes no sense. Cracks won't be a problem on black because you can't see them. It's no that they aren't there. On white, it's not like there are no fingerprints, you just can't see them.
