Possible in principle to upgrade from single to dual quad core Mac Pro?

I was thinking of buying a quad core now, and possibly upgrading at some later time (when the faster quad cores become cheaper). Is it possible?
 
Mac Pro's hold their value well... just resell it down the road on Craigslist or eBay and buy a refurbished octo core when you are ready.
