Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but seeing as the rumoured iPhone 12 Pro dark blue colour has appeared as a new colour option on the series 6 Apple Watch (the top end model in the Watch range), could it be that the new colours for the iPad Air (Apple's low-mid range iPad) could be the new colour options for the non-Pro iPhone 12?

For the last couple of years Apple has gone with brighter, more vivid colours for the base iPhone models - XR and the 11. Makes sense that will continue for the base model 12 (the 5.4" and 6.1"), and can't see why Apple would have a few new original colours for the iPad Air and then a completely different set of new colours for the new iPhone.

So that would mean the colour options for the 5.4"/6.1" non-Pro iPhone 12s are:

  • Black (assuming they reserve Space Grey for the Pro models again)
  • White (assuming they reserve Silver for the Pro models again)
  • Rose Gold
  • Green
  • Sky Blue
I'd imagine there will be a Product Red option too, as usual.

For the Pro models I would guess at Space Grey, Silver, Gold, 'Midnight Blue' (or some other dark blue variant name which looks the same as the S6 Apple Watch blue).

Could be completely wrong here, but it just doesn't make sense to me that Apple would introduce so many new colour options for hardware in the same year.

I was thinking the same thing!
Watching the iPad Air announcement video thinking "wow! Look at the new iPhone 12 colors!" Haha

If they keep to the new iPad colours that means the temptation to buy a new phone is much less. If there had been a purple, I’d have been all over it (real purple not pale greyish colour like the 11).

Agreed. It might make me upgrade just for the color. I almost want to sell my 11” pro to buy the Air 4 for the color alone. ;-p
I’m seriously thinking about it. It seems a little extreme though since I rarely use my iPad Pro out of the magic keyboard case.

I got an email showing these colors.

Ok think we’ll see the midnight blue coming to the standard iPhone 12 too seeing as the aluminium watch has come with it. The investment is already there in the process. Not sure I want a coloured iPhone though, still feel space grey is more suiting to my style and profession.

Same here. Not sure I would wont a colored iphone and I also feel the same way about the Space Gray. Plus I always get a case for my phone so it's going to hide the color anyways. If I wanted something that colorful, I'd probably get the case that is colored, not the phone. If I do decide to get the next iPhone, I will definitely get it in Space Gray.

Only to give it to grandchild, upgrade to a 12.9" pro because you're interested in the bigger workspace, then decide to go back to the 11" pro? but not before giving the 8th gen ipad a whirl? 😉

Not denying. 😝

Pretty sure I won’t go that route, but I guess anything is possible.

I did stick with the SE. I’venot ruled out something from the 12 lineup yet, since nothing has been announced, but definitely still loving my SE.

If they release the blue of the iPad Air in the iPhone 12 5.4” I will for sure be buying it. Lol, that will 100% make me leave my SE. For sure no doubt in my mind. Lol 😂
