Engadget is polling so they must be hearing some of the murmurs about it...
It's not necessarily ML, as many ML users have reported the same or better battery life. There are many factors that impact your battery life, beyond the OS. See the BATTERY LIFE FROM A CHARGE section of the following link for details, including tips on how to maximize your battery life.

This should answer most, if not all, of your battery/charging questions:

You keep posting this, and I respect your quest for spreading knowledge about things....but iOS5 had severe drains, and now ML has an issue...My system is bare, fresh install, and I am seeing the same loss of battery life....the only variable is Mountain Lion...

And yet, others who have ML are reporting the same or better battery life. If ML was the culprit, everyone on ML would be experiencing the same thing. Some have reported that doing a clean install fixed the issue. That wouldn't be the case if ML was the source of the problem.

I've done a clean install and it was fine for one cycle and then came back...there is something built in the operating system causing a battery drain, the notification center, the twitter integration, something....cause I have zero apps and programs...

My battery is fully functioning and 88 percent of original after 3 years.

Yeah they are collecting data and surveying people about the issue...it'll really be interesting what they find...seems he didn't even bother to read what I posted, he just refuted it immediately.

I've noticed a high overnight drain when my mid 2011 MBA is sleeping. With Lion I would see a drop of 1-2% a night. Now it's frequently 7-8%. I have Power Nap turned off while on battery, so that's not a factor. I didn't change a single app or setting when upgrading from Lion to ML.

I did read it. The point is that there are many factors that can contribute to a reduction in battery life, other than ML. If all ML users reported lower battery life, it would make sense that ML is the cause. However, since some have reported the same or better battery life after upgrading or clean installing ML, that proves that ML may or may not be the cause. I'm not saying ML isn't a cause; I'm saying it's not the only possibility. You didn't bother to read what I posted, you just refuted it immediately.

I don't want to fight, I spent last night toying with my laptop cause I have backups...I installed snow leopard and watched a movie for 60 min, timed, and lost 18 percent...went and reformatted, watched the same 60 min and was down 32-33 percent.

There is a big diff.

And I read what you said yesterday and the day before, nothing new.
