Re: hate to burst your respective bubbles...

hinkhous: i think someone else already pointed this out on the thread. i have no reason not to believe you. i know a number of people who have the 21" display and say they dont need more space (hard for me to buy). so if apple has topped out the connection and people are happy. maybe they wont touch them.

macuser: i think you are wrong.

i put some weight in the rumor that came through here a few days ago from someone who had recieved an internal email from apple outlining the new ipods in detail (seemd like acurrate stuff, 10gb versions, ms and mac versions) and also mentyioned that the email said apple was working on a new line of monitors (they included a codename i believe). no details on the monitor though and no date. (ipod was slated for end of march).

this makes me think something is in the pipeline. but probably a few months off (likely more). does anyone think a new connection is possible? could it be a ways off because it is supposed to debut with the g5?

we have all speculated and predicted a 19" but i havent heard any rummors regarding it. anyone hear anything?

The IBM monitors may very well use different "motherglass" and as such may not get hosed for cost.

Don't forget to mention that the IBM T221, which has a massive 3840 x 2400 resolution, costs about $25,000. Those who don't think a monitor should cost more that a Mac are unlikely to buy one which costs more than a car!

Hmmmmmm...........

New iPod AND new monitor.............

What if we see a new monitor with FW and a new connector? I've heard through the local MacGeek circuit that "gigawire" is a wireless protocol to replace ADC and reduce monitor connections' need for a bulky cable by taking some or all of the signal load.

On a somewhat les sci-fi level: How about a monitor with at least FW if not an iPod "dock".

What size (diagonal) is the IBM production model?

Is there a resolution between existing and T221 quality that'd be cheaper?

whoops!

AL: you are right about my post duplicating a previous post. thanks for the tip...I missed it in my first read.

The T221 is a 22" monitor, and it is a like a photorealisitic cinema display. I have 20/8 vision, and it was difficult for ME to think it was a monitor, and not an interactive photo...it is that nice!

There are several resolutions between the cinema and the T221. Samsung makes a $4500 LCD which is ~2100x1280, and I think IBM has a mid range 16:9 as well.

chrome not silver. im thinking about this more and more and dang....what i have pictured in my mind looks tight. chrome is definitly the way to go.
probably wont happen though.

its good to imagine.
