Maybe if they used OAuth like nuevasync so I don't have to give them my password. My google account and password has pretty much everything in my life. Calendars, financial info, ect. I don't need to be giving someone the key.

I'm trying to sign up for this...but it's not working. I put in my email address on gmail and password and I'm getting an error saying it can't do a web login. Anyone else having this problem?

I am also getting this error, what am I doing wrong?'

Update: if you are getting this error, please go to this link and login. https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
It will enable you to disable some Gmail setting which will allow you to login.

However, even after doing all of this and setting up exchange, I still cannot get it to work.

Push mail is not worth it to me to do this. I can do it with forwarding to my mobileme account which I did for a while, but I found push mail to be fairly over-rated.

With push available on the phone, it is pretty much irrelevant to me, as anyone who needs to send me something that is time sensitive will do so in a medium designed for near instant communication, which email is not.

Since I got it working this morning, I thought I'd make it clear what this service actually does, because it does not push Gmail, or any actual mail for that matter.

It's an exchange account that alerts you when you have a new message on whatever IMAP account you've set up. When you get a new message in your actual email account (Gmail, for example), your msgpush exchange account will push a new message that says something like "You have a new email message, go look at your account to see it."

So, msgpush doesn't push your email, so much as notification that an email has arrived, which I hardly think qualifies as push Gmail. I wanted to clear this up because I didn't think it was at all clear on their site.

Unless you're dying to get a message telling you that you have a message whenever someone sends you an email, take a pass on this one.

Yes, this is the way the actual service works behind the scenes... however, you don't get a "message" telling you that you have a message. When you get mail, a number pops up in the corner of the mail icon telling you how many new emails you have... which, forgive me if I'm incorrect, but isn't that how you're notified of new mail anyway? The service works great... once you register and setup the exchange account and get everything going, if you didn't know how it was working you wouldn't even notice a difference. It took me all of 10 minutes to setup and the only snag I hit was this error...

Could not connect and/or authenticate. [ALERT] Web login required (Failure)

... which was easily fixed by using this link...

It works like a charm!

i've been using this for about a week and while there were some hiccups at first, now i get notified anytime i get a new gmail. not push in the true sense, but my iphone now dings as soon as new mail arrives in gmail. opening up the gmail on the iphone initiates a connection and it downloads the new mail.

the developer is really responsive with responding to my emails and when i wasn't getting notified he was quick to get it working again.

it is working for me, although i agree that it isn't the ultimate solution that we'd all like (actual push email from gmail).

Sorry for the noob question, but is this a 3G specific problem?

I've had push notifications from my gmail account since day one of receiving my 3GS...

Sure you have.

uhh..yea...i have.

i just sent myself an email...showed up on my 3GS about 10 secs after i hit "send"..and then sent myself another to make sure it wasn't the "fetch" at work. again...10 secs later, i hear the "ding".

smart ass.

Are you on wi-fi? I get gmail pushed only when on it which I don't understand because technically it shouldn't push.

yeah i'm on wifi right now since i'm home.

but i get push on 3G too..at work there is no wifi, but i still get push. it's almost fast enough where i don't have to consider IM apps...as long as the other person doesn't mind using emails as well...

i don't think it matters what type of connection you're using...it's going to try to push if it's connected to the gmail server.

It all depends on if the mail.app retains a connection to the mail server. It appears in 3.0 that the connection remains longer, which allows for emails to be received prior to the next fetch command. It isn't true push email.

I decided to give it a go and sign up and it doesn't work to setup my Gmail account.

Could not connect and/or authenticate. [ALERT] Web login required (Failure)

I had this same problem too, but fixed it by clearing and unlocking my CAPTCHA with my google apps account, check this link
