I bought my first Mac this year so I’m still learning Mac OS.
I’ve had tons of Apple products since 2009 but never a Mac.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro 2.2 16GB 1TB on Mojave.
If I upgrade to Catalina will it slow down my computer?
Can I go back to Mojave?
I do have a time machine backup with my current setup
Is there anything I should be aware of if I do update.

Im not unhappy with Mojave. But I was thinking if I updated it might fix an issue I have.
When I connect my iPhone to Mac, it connects and reconnects repeatedly like it wants me to “trust this computer” but if I say yes it just keeps doing it.
And it never shows phone in iTunes
I’ve tried all the fixes google shows
Still same problem.
I was thinking an update to new OS might address it or make problem go away.

i've not installed Catalina yet, as I'm waiting for a few patches first, so cant comment on Catalina,

But I will advise you to make sure you have at least two backups on separate devices, if you have Catalina, you can't rollback with time machine, you will have to do a clean install.

as for Mojave, i have not had any problems with it, I quite like the OS tbh.

That sounds more like a hardware problem either with the phone, the usb cable, or the connector. I wouldn't install Catalina until you resolve the problem.

Yeah I haven’t had any issues other than the iTunes issue. And that might not be Mojave, could be another issue.
So if I update to Catalina, and decide to restore Macbook with time machine, what will happen. As in will it go back to Mojave or what

Make sure that all the third party apps you use are compatible with Catalina. I have 3 of them (mission critical) that are not.

Also, Catalina has quite a few bugs. It might be best to wait until at least V10.15.1 arrives, or even better, V10.15.2.

I have installed Catalina on an external SSD, and I am not really noticing much (if any) difference from Mojave.

I generally wait for updates like y’all said. I really don’t have a reason to update other than my OCD hates that badge down there nagging me to clear it.
if it offered any features or performance I’d update. But I guess I’ll wait a while until Apple releases a few updates to it
I’m already on iOS 13.1.3 LOL

I have so many issues with Catalina that i will not install it at all.

1. EyeTV does not work anymore (32 bit app)
2. HP printer software will not work
3. XAMPP will not work
4. Several (older) games will not work (32 bit)
5. Many small tools will not work (32 bit)

I have to wait until the most important of these are fixed (not by Apple but the respective vendors...)
I will use Mojave until the support ends i guess....

If Mojave is working pretty well for you, I'd hold off on "upgrading".
Seems to be lots of problems with Catalina right now.
