my friend works for apple and was able to do it for me. gotta know your geniouses

My experience was the same yesterday as what PrayForDeath observed.

I got the iPad on March 26th but did not actually open it up and register it until the 1st of April.

I took the iPad into the Apple Store on April 27th and the blueshirt inspected the iPad and said it was in good shape. He then looked me up on his PDA and said I could not get AppleCare as I was one day out of the 30-day limit.

Oh well. I usually get AppleCare, but I've never had to use it. It was interesting that this experience was different than for the iPhone. I was able to get the iPhone Applecare about three months after purchasing the phone.

I got a good STM Skinny 3 iPad cover a few weeks ago and am very well protected. Between that money and the money not spent on AppleCare, I had more than enough money to buy a nice haute Chinese cuisine dinner for the girlfriend and myself later last night!

I doubt any close-friend genius could have gotten AC+ after a few days have passed from the 30 day limit. I've read 1 or 2 days is possible with a lot of under-the-table contortions (such as having the customer return and repurchase), and I suspect this was your situation.

So don't feel bad, OP. Who knows, you might never need it and saved yourself a hundred.

Yeah, well at first I wasn't interested in AppleCare+. But now I'm using the ipad every day for hours, and I take it with me everywhere, so I'd rather pay $99 for peace of mind than worry about it every time I take it outside.

I'd rather pay for insurance than pay a little less and get a protective case which would alter the appearance of the ipad.

What was the point of your post?
Hmmm, I wonder why they didn't help you.

Yes it does....

a new i pad is well made, why u need an apple care? i bought mine about a week ago but i am not considering apple care....

p.s. the only problem with it my be accidental demage but apple care does not cover it unlike Dell does....

AppleCare + DOES cover accidental damage now. That is what the plus (+) is for at the end of the AppleCare. Only iPhone and iPad are offered for AppleCare +

I got it on day 30 over the phone, no appointment necessary. They had said I should go to the store, but I was hesitant only because I had tried to do this around day 25 on the phone and the store told me I could only buy the policy over the phone (which was apparently wrong). So when I called I told them I'd only go to the store if they needed to examine the iPad but I didn't want to drive out there to find out they wouldn't help me.

In any case, day 30 was hard enough. I'd be afraid to go longer.

They did tell me I could get the regular AppleCare with no problem, no idea how long that goes for (to buy it)

Hope you got lucky:p

Yea they offered me the same thing, but I told them I'm mainly looking for accidents insurance, so im not interested in just AppleCare.

My situation was similar to what others have experienced. I pre-ordered my iPad and received it March 21st. I went to the local Apple store, bought a cover, and verified that I had 30 days to decide on AppleCare+. On April 19th I took my iPad to the store, so they could verify it wasn't damaged, to purchase AppleCare+. The clerk went into the back office, verified my date of activation, but noticed I'd been charged several days prior to receiving it. The Manager supposedly called Apple and was told the 30 day clock starts when the charge is processed. I explained there was no way I could have know when the clock started, which didn't seem fair. But, they wouldn't budge. I left the store and immediately called Apple. The Rep was sympathetic, but said he'd have to transfer me to Customer Administrative Services (or something like that). The gentleman I talked to was VERY professional and agreed that what I was experiencing wasn't Apple-like. He immediately took my order for AppleCare+ and restored my faith in Apple. I then went back into the store and explained what had happened. Their response was that the customers have more clout with Apple than the stores do. Live and learn. Good luck.

I just got back from the Apple store. After inspecting the ipad, the technician checked the system, and then told me that she can't give me the plan because I bought it more than 30 days ago.

I told her I was not aware of the limitation, asked if there was any way to still get the plan, etc. So she went to the back and checked, and then came back and told me the only way I could get it is by calling Apple.

So I just called them, and they told me that it is not possible to give me the plan now because they are bound by a legal contract, blah blah blah.

Long story short, I couldn't get the plan. Guess I just saved myself a 100 bucks. lol

also i is very wired with Apple, becase usualy awry company give atlist 1 year of cavareg for free but with Apple u have to buy it,

p.s.
Well at my opinion i guess u did a right thing. I never buy any covereg because it is just waisting of money. I have alot of equipment at my house and if i would buy a caverage for awry singel device i own i would pay lot of money. and even if something breaks i would still safe alot of money, because it will be cheaper to rapair something brouken then to buy a cavareg for awry sinel device i own.
I am not puting a rule like that and i am not saying awrybody should follow me, but at my expiriense i made a right desigion and i saved alot of money.

ok, sorry for missinformation. i did not know that it covers that too

p.s. but i still think that for most users any sort of caverage not just from Apple but from any other manufactor if u buy a high quality made device u should not buy coverage for it, because it is just waisting of money....

I like how things turned out for you, RVDave. I think they did the right thing. The clock should start running on day of possession, IMO.

I bought AppleCare+ on both iPhones and both iPads I purchased in the last year. I hated paying the $105 with tax each, but you know this will totally ensure all four gadgets will function perfectly, without a hitch, until the day after the warranty runs out. It's only the things you don't buy a warranty on that actually break. Murphy's Law! :)

I always swear I'll hang onto mobile gadgets for two years and then don't. I figure the collective $420 (yikes) I spent on AppleCare+ for these four items will help me sell these things, at least that's what I tell myself to make myself feel better. I normally don't buy extended warranties, but I make exceptions for mobile devices and cameras...and the stupid $299 Beats headphones my son conned me into buying. Of course, they're going strong after almost a year, but I know it's only because I gave Best Buy an extra $50 or whatever it was. Otherwise, they'd be in 14 pieces by now. :D

I'm sorry the OP couldn't get it done. Just be really careful with it and flip it right before the fourth generation one comes out. You'll be $99+ tax better off than the rest of us and can smile then.

I agree with you, except AppleCare+ not only covers my iPad, but also my clumsiness. The chances of my iPad malfunctioning is probably close to zero. The chances of me dropping it or sitting on it and breaking the screen is more likely ($300). Yes, I would be very hard on myself for breaking it, but the AppleCare+ would ease the pain. I just have to remind myself that accidental damage is only covered twice. Good luck.

Are people in a state of panic because they think if the drop their iPad they will have to buy a new one? With AppleCare+, you'll pay $99 plus $50 deductible, or $149 total. An out of warranty repair is only $299, only $150 more, NOT the price of a new device. Plus you only pay it if you actually need to. Everyone's risk tolerance is different, so to me, paying $100 now to possibly save $150 in the future isn't necessary. Lose or theft is a bigger concern. http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad
FWIW Square Trade now has zero$ deductible plans. It costs $10 more over 2 years ($5/yr) however you can't buy their insurance after 30 days either.

The iPad has a full 1-year warranty for defects. AppleCare+ buys a second year of warranty plus covers accidental damage (dropping in water included).

It doesn't sound like a very good insurance plan apple is selling to be honest. The 30day limit sounds like something imposed on them by their insurance underwriter. It seems a bit limiting if you ask me.

What difference does it make if the item is 1 month or 6 months old? If the blue geek inspected it ok, then it shouldn't matter about age. Most insurance policies dont have this silly limitation on them, if they did, they'd go broke!

It's probably a little bit of a marketing tactic. The pressure is to buy this option now while you can and before it expires. Most buyers after a certain point in time after the purchase tend to forget about coverage worries and have moved on to other things.

I bought my iPad on 3/27 and tried to buy AppleCare + at the store on 4/27. Yup, 30 days in the real world, but 31 days in Apple world. So, no, they wouldn't sell me it. They suggested I return and rebuy it (bought at Best Buy) then come back. I ended up with Best Buy warranty instead. I wish I had just called and gotten AC+ over the phone.

So I got lucky. I was able to get AppleCare+ after 30 days. Well just after... I got it on day 31. The guy at the apple store was really helpful. I guess a lot of people including myself forget to include the day you buy the iPad as day 1 of your warranty/ 14 day return window/30 apple care+ sign up window. So I showed up on day 31.

My mistake, but they did something in the system so that I could get the apple care+ product. Initially the system would not let them sell it to me. I told them the stupid date calculation mistake I made, and they were able to help.

Luckily I bought the new iPad from the Apple store, if I had bought it from another store they said the system could not be adjusted.

Get the old apple care 30.00 at Walmart Clerance , you have up to a year to use it.

Seems like a bunch of people got caught out on March having 31 days. Means you'd have to buy by day-1 the next month to be 30 days.

Would be a lot better if Apple would directly put the deadline on the receipt or something. No surprises then.

But you will only pay the initial $100 price of AppleCare once.

You coud drop it another 5 times and pay 5 x $50 for each replacement ($250 obviously), whereas "saving" the $100 on AppleCare initially woud mean you'd have to buy 5 x iPads (roughly $2500).

AppleCare makes sense IMO, I bought mine when I picked up my iPad on release day in NYC (I live in the UK, so buying both out there made financial sense).

You only get 2 accidental coverages FYI

You are allowed only TWO replacements for "accidental damage" under Applecare+ so your math isn't correct.

I never really considered apple care+ until I had returned my AT&T iPad for a Verizon iPad. The genius offered it to me and then I folded and said why not. I would have assumed that you could get it even in your 12th month of ownership like regular apple care. I'm happy I got it though, it's definately a good feeling to have a piece of mind in case something does happen.
