Hi,

I want to use an iPod touch for just one app and want it Locked down to that for third parties. Now I know I can use guided touch, but that doesn't allow the device to be turned on / off. Is there a way or an app that could do this? I am sure restaurants that use touches for ordering and shops that use iPads for POS must me able to do this.

Thanks

Have a look at this WWDC video for all possibilities: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2017/716/

Thanks for that. I will give Apple Configurator 2 a go. Its a shame you have to wipe and restore device first!

Can't you restore from backup in Apple Configurator 2?

I backed up, tried using Configurator. It wiped device, but then got stuck on "Unable to activate "iPad" The device may be activation locked. Continue on the device or try iTunes to activate, and then press Try Again"

Sounds like you need to manually reset it
Apple Configurator just reset the device, it didn't remove your AppleID's activations lock (Find my iPad/iPhone/iPod).

Guided Access in fact does allow you to lock the device. And when you unlock it by pressing the sleep/wake button it just goes right back to the app. You can enable this under options when entering Guided Access.

Thanks. Probably the case. I thought Configurator would have moved that, especially as it asked for my Apple ID and password. It gives no warning about this during the process. I will manually wipe the device, incl removing find my iPod.

Hi dimen, yes thanks, I know about that, but you can't power off with that as keys are disabled.

Do you really mean turning it off as in shutting it completely down by holding the sleep/wake button for several seconds?
Or do you just want to turn the screen off? Because that's what I meant and you can do that with Guided Access. In the options menu you can allow the user to use the sleep/wake button.

Hi, complete power off. I am setting up for an elderly person who likes to turn everything off at night.
