Possible to share a USB drive connected to iMac?

I'm new to Mac and new to networking.

Is it possible to connect an external USB to an iMac (this is where I would store my data, music, pictures), then somehow make it viewable to my PC Laptop in the same wifi?

Basically, it would be somewhat of a NAS, but only viewable when my iMac is on, which is fine by me.

Yes you can share your drive.

Better yet a Ethernet based NAS like the Synology ones.

(Synology was going to be my option 2 if the above was not possible).

You can easily do this in System Preferences > Sharing > check File Sharing and add users.
