No because for the most part, people act civilally and comport themselves appropriately. The same cannot be said for the prsi
Is that just for the PRSI forum, or the general news articles that are marked PRSI?

I have never visited the PRSI forum per se. I just comment on the front page ones marked 'PRSI' (i.e. Tim Cook encourages globalization). In that regard, I'd support having PRSI comments counting. Heck, most (90%+) have moved the conversation forward, and were enlightening, at least to me. Maybe I'm just an optimist. However, there's more than just technology here. It's how it affects people is why I made the move to Apple products, especially after my divorce from them in 1998, when Steve Jobs killed the Netwon, my only Apple Product. 10 years later, I was back.

The funny thing is all it took was a free iPod Nano to get me interested again.

Using language like 'cesspool' suggests that you're personally offended by some of the views expressed in PRSI. I don't agree with them all either. I've mentioned I personally consider most of the posts in the 'Community Forum' are drivel. But I understand people see value in different things so would treat all posts equally..
Well, even a cesspool is 90% water. It's that 10% that makes it so bad... ;)

Any front page news story that starts off in PRSI or ends up in the PRSI will be bound by the same constraints, i.e., your post count will be unchanged if you are active in that thread.

It's certainly a way to go, but then you run the risk of bad behavior spilling over to other forum sections. We decided that the rules apply, period.

If users want unmoderated discussions where no rules apply, MacRumors isn't the right place for them.
That's fair enough but leaves the mods with a lot of work.

I don't believe that "bad" behavior would spill into other subforums because the content is inherently different.

I think that you are an optimist. From my perspective PRSI is an infection that poisons the body of MacRumors, and should be excised with all due speed. I do understand that it may help pay the bills, so other considerations may apply.

That is correct. :(

As do I. I've had heated discussions on there, and some of my funniest posts have been pulled, and the best part was one that was the #1 vote getter, because those that can't see themselves offending others got offended, and cried. PM me if you want more info. I still chuckle about it.

We can't discuss specifics in a public thread, and I haven't checked your posts. But I can say that posts aren't moderated because someone complains. When a post gets reported, the report is considered. Not all reported posts contain violations, but those that do are moderated. If a post has violations in it, the number of votes makes no difference.

If you think one of your posts was moderated incorrectly, let us know by using this form so we can take another look.

Fair enough... I have used the form when there was a post that I didn't realize could be taken another way (my intended interpretation was rated PG, and I didn't realize the R/NC17 perspective, and the moderators were great about it.)

Do posts about posts in PRSI count?

As long as you post in a subforum that counts the posts it counts.
Doesn't matter what the content of the post is.

To my knowledge the only forums where posts do not count are PRSI, marketplace, console games and wasteland.

Slightly off topic, but I've been a member here for 5+ years but don't post frequently. It seems like # of likes or more weight to account age than sheer # posts would be a better approach to the PRSI qualification test. In fact, # posts should arguably count against you if you don't get enough likes.

That would help the cesspool problem in PRSI and eliminate some of the pointless "me too!" posts (that rarely if ever get moderated, in my experience).

I'm still not eligible to post in PRSI. It's probably saved me wasted time, so I'm not really upset about it. But a few topics have been put there that have been an exception to the cesspool trend and I would have had something to contribute.

We understand the rule can be frustrating for users who have been here a while, but part of the requirement has to do with letting other users get to know you. That's best done by participating. No balance will ever be perfect, but the PRSI isn't one of the focus areas of the site, and this balance is one we feel works fairly well.

If you see "me too" posts that aren't moderated, report them please. There are tens of thousands of new posts made every day, and the volunteer moderators greatly appreciate the help.

Hadn't thought about the 'get to know you' aspect of the policy. Makes sense. In that regard I can see why it doesn't matter how many thumbs up you get. It's not about whether your opinion is popular, but just whether you're an active member of the community.

And the guidelines are fine. Posts in PRSI shouldn't count.

Quite right. But....

What if we continue not to counts posts in PRSI for the traditional post count.

And.... just for fun

Implement a separate counter that says how many posts we have in just PRSI and gives us a level of "CRAZY".

So... perhaps I could be a 68030 in the regular forums as I am at the moment. And might possibly be "insane" in the PRSI.

All in the name of fun.

Users could vote on the naming of the various levels. Obviously not to be taken seriously. As we all know that PRSI is just crazy land anyway. And why shouldn't we measure just how crazy we must be to spend our time in this place.

If you really want to know how many PRSI posts one has, just look on the Area's tab of your profile page.

I say be rid of PRSI altogether. I posted a topic today about erosion in Louisiana and the replies were blame gays or bomb another country.

The culture in that sub forum breeds anger and hostility. If you want to have a conversation on those topics then go find a board that deals with those topics.
