If you don't care about your post count why do you care if your posts "count"?

And if you care about your post count, then the question is just "why?".

Not counting posts is a very, very effective way of reducing meaningless and troll posts.

Some people regard the trust-worthiness of a post based on the posters post count. I am not very likely to take the advice of a "newbie" in the programming forum if they are giving me in-depth terminal commands. Maybe it is just me, but I do believe post count is valid, and needed.

So I can run around posting nonsense and I'll be believable because I have a high post count? Cool.

On a side note, I always investigate what people tell me to do before doing it. If your answer sounds like nonsense then I disregard it. Clearly you know what I meant.

So post count doesn't matter. ;)

Yes, sometimes, depending on who is reading it. If you have lots of posts, a high-ranking title, an avatar, or even an important sounding user name (like "Doctor" something, to pick a random example), then some members will pay more attention to what you say, whether you deserve it or not.

i'm totally fine with it not counting (even though i very likely get hurt the most since i like to post in the console forums and in the politics sub forum)

i wonder how many i would have if those would count .. is there an easy way to check ?

(it took me 9 months or so to get an avatar and i was fine with that as well)

I would love to know also to be honest.

And for one main reason. I think it's intriguing to know how many posts we have made and we do have a top posters list each year, and I would like to see whether my count has moved me up or down the list this year.

Having my posts not count in a section which I am primarily active in - seems is a little like being handicapped (in golf terms) compared to other regular posters who just so happen to be more active in other sections.

But oh well, at the end of the day - it's not the be all of everything is it. :)

The advanced search page lets you search for posts (up to 300) that a given member has made in a given forum. The results show you've made 176 posts in the Console Games forum and at least 300 in the Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum.

I think non apple/computer related sections should not for your post count. I am happy with the way things are.

Fair enough it's a Apple forum, but where do you draw the line?

You draw the line when a forum starts creating so many problems, that you take steps to keep the forum alive in some form or another, rather than canning completely. Posts don't count in the Marketplace either, due to similar problems in the past... same with the PRSI forum.

Here's the thing; you guys are attributing faulty cause.

Essentially, you split away the console forum and turned off the ability to have your post count go up and noticed hey, it improved. So you attribute the improvement to the post count bit, when really it has nothing to do with it.

A few years ago the gaming section wasn't a problem. Do you know why? Because everyone was content with their systems and could discuss them. Then the new systems were announced and the FUD started flying. Last year was the worst because the XBox 360 was out and the other two weren't. So 360 fans made fun of the other two systems while fans of the other two systems started spreading hype and false rumors about the others and people started arguing and fighting constantly. Then the systems finally came out and their was a brief period of infighting, and the forums got split.

Now all three systems have been out over a year, and everyone knows what they can do and can discuss them rationally. THAT'S why the fighting died down. We'll see a new round of arguing once the PS4 is announced in four or five years.

Fair point well made, but I meant where do you draw the line in which forums count and which don't [If we're going off the whole Apple ones only]. Never mind though. :)

Well honestly, who has problems with chess? Although I can see how threads titled "Knight to A3 or C3, Advise needed." got old. ;)

Me.

The Apple chess app made an illegal move on me :0, which I could reproduce about 30% of the time, and I posted here about it.

The Apple staffer who maintained the chess app pm'd me from Apple to ask for the savegame and more info. Sadly by that time, I was too busy, and I never responded. If he's still here, many thanks for contacting me.

Back to your thread topic now.
