Perhaps you are special. :) I definitely had a post deleted today without any notification, and that didn't strike me as unusual. I know I've spent time looking for my posts in the past when, were I notified, I wouldn't have.

I didn't see any special tick box for such a notification alert in user settings. Maybe the mod forgot to send the notification.

FWIW, the post-deletion dialog has a checkbox to notify the author and provide a reason, but it's un-checked by default. Not clear to me whether a generic alert is sent if it isn't checked. As you probably know, we can't discuss specific moderation issues here.

If I understand you correctly, the mod has to manually tick the notification box in order to send the notification?

Thanks. I suggest/ask it be checked by default, if possible.

The posts (now plural) of mine that were deleted were responses to other posts that were deleted, so I understand why mine were. However, I received no notification each time (how many times exactly? I can't be sure), hence the suggestion to make it the default.

That’s weird because I would get notifications. Are you posting in a WikiPost? Because I’m not sure which threads.

I get completely that it can be confusing and/or irritating to have a post disappear with no explanation.

In cases where you don't get a notification, it's likely a case of your post being a reply to a moderated post. If you don't get a notification, that means that there was nothing inherently wrong with your post, it was simply a reply to a post that no longer exists. In addition, it means that the moderators had so much clean-up work to do in the thread (or generally a big work load) that they simply didn't have time to send a message.

Our goal is always to send a notification, and apologize that we don't always manage!

I had a post deleted for the reason of "Reply to moderated post." Can you please let us know what that means?

There was a post in a news thread that was removed for being off-topic to the thread. You replied to that post. Since your post would not have made sense without the context of the earlier post, your post was removed and I sent you the "Reply to moderated post." note.

Super helpful! Thanks!

That makes sense, and I appreciate the hard work (frequently unnoticed) that the mods do. I would love to see that checkbox checked by default, so that people get notified, even in the case where the post itself was fine.

FWIW, I've reported comments on occasion, when I see ones that going seriously off-topic, or have one user belittling another, or that violate PRSI-in-a-non-PRSI thread. And I've reported comments with which I strongly agree, if they break the rules. I've probably had a few of my comments reported too, over the past (ack, 17 years?).

I have had many times when a post was removed because it was a reply to a post that was deleted for cause (whether merely off-topic, or worse), and I'm faced with two annoyances - one, okay, it was off-topic, but in some cases I spent ten minutes carefully choosing my words to make a point (often clarifying my take on it in my head in the process), and now there's no record of it and I'd like a copy of what I wrote for myself. And, two, sometimes I get the "your comment in thread X was removed: reply to a moderated/off-topic comment", and I'm like, "uh, which one? - I made at least a dozen posts in that thread" - again, a case where I'd like to see what comment of mine was removed.

I've asked about this in the past, and have been told that if I write to the mods (not _a_ mod, but the mods in general - using "contact us", but not the tips line - it can be bit tricky to navigate), I can give the time and the thread (and my name), and they can generally email me a copy of the deleted message. And I've done this on occasion, and it does work, though it's a minor hassle for both me and the mods.

(Related, there are links in the footer of every page to many of the writers (and some mods?)... I'd love to see there be a link there with the same prominence, location, that goes to the moderators in general - presumably there's some "mailbox"/queue that all the mods can see, so whoever can handle it can see it.)

I'd love to see the system changed so that when a comment is deleted, the forum member is automatically emailed a copy of the deleted message, with or without a comment from the mods as to the reason for deletion. But, I understand, that may be beyond the capabilities of the forum software that is being used. Perhaps something for @arn and co. to mention upstream?

That is basically what the Contact Us link does. All moderators and administrators can see what is submitted there. The link is available from the Support menu at the top of the page.

Had another post of mine deleted today without any notification. It wasn't a reply to a post. Can you please make it a rule where people are notified when their posts are deleted?

EDIT: Sorry...it looks like I did get the notification and missed it somehow. My apologies.
