where'd this thread come from? ;)

you know, this place is full of surprises but what i enjoy is that it's a nice balance between business and pleasure. some may prefer one over the other but it's not too hard to wade through the fringe i think. (i thrive on the "fringe" anyway) :p it is what it is, enjoy it.

Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
The Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
Alice: How do you know I'm mad?
The Cat: You must be. Or you wouldn't have come here.

dunno, just seemed fitting. :D

Some could also argue that this thread is 22 posts to many and that by arguing is wasting space and just inflating post counts. While I agree that a lot of the stuff said here is just filler think about all the thousands of people that signed up and never have posted. The fact that people actually contribute is far more important then having useless posts as this community as a whole is small if you consider the actual amount of active members.

The bottom line is: it's a free world and people can post what they like (as long as they don't live in China :( ). Therefore people are also free to post about things that annoy them. Because the Internet is anonymous there are far more annoying things there than in the real world. I joined this site because I'm interested in Macs and I wanted to read rumours and comments from enlightened people. No, I don't have anything to add but I believe that's OK. Does that give me a right to complain? That's up to each individual to decide. But there are some things that just seem plain annoying by definition. These kinds of threads for one:

Poster A: Is anyone thinking of buying (rumoured) product xyz?
Poster B: No, I don't have a need for it.

I think some kind of self-imposed control over conciseness and relevance wouldn't be a bad thing (community discussions excepted, of course).

Just my arrogant tuppny bit

Have a banana.

I was listening to Bill Bailey at work yesterday. He was doing his Cockney Classical thing.

"Have a banana!" in cockney has become a very useful pacifier for unruly/stressed co-workers.

Having bananas and getting enough sleep are two very important issues in this fine world. So important that perhaps this thread should be moved to the religion and politics forums where we could be sure that no one will be exploiting the quick one liner/post count loophole.
:)

I agree with mad jew when it comes to front page news, I mainly just read the news and ignore the thread. Take the iPod video rumors, its all just, that would be cool, I want one, blah blah. But I'm fine with that.

I love how this thread has 29 posts, while "GUIDE/FAQ: Hay guys, how do I get an avatar?" has 117, even though a single link to the relevant FAQ would suffice ...
