I just jailbroke my iPod touch. The actual jailbreaking process was fine, but there are some issues now. Here are all the details:

redsn0w 0.9.6b4
iPod Touch 2nd generation 8GB (non-MC model)
Mac OS X 10.6.3
installed cydia only (no battery percentage, etc)
iPod was running 4.2.1, I selected 4.1 ipsw in redsn0w, and it is now running 4.2.1

Issues:
The screen flickers, often only in spots

I have a custom theme set, and when I open a folder, the icons morph back into the default icons, then back again when the folder is closed.

Safari opens for under a second, then quits after under a second, even after a restart.

Slower and reduced battery life (this is to be expected though, so i don't care much about that)

The mobileTerminal (downloaded from cydia) opens then quickly quits, just like safari does

Please help me with this!!!

Why did you point redsn0w at 4.1? I thought the latest version of redsn0w worked directly with 4.2.1.

Also, a lot of JB apps are not yet fully compatible with 4.2.1, odd behavior here and there is expected.

i was thinking about jailbreaking my touch but after reading so many problems, I will hold off.

The advantges to jailbreaking vs unstability?

Advantage - you get full control of your iDevice.
Disadvantage - you get full control, you can mess things up!

Basically, JB is not recommended unless you like to tinker and have time and energy to fix your device if things go wrong.

that pretty much sums it up for me. i rooted my android phone and it took over my life. I was constantly fiddling with it. For my apple stuff, I just like it to work and don't want to troubleshoot it.

The screen flickers, often only in spots Did you make any file changes / are you sure you used the most up-to-date version of redsn0w?

halfway through installing a theme, Cydia crashed. Reopened Cydia and no sources, no packages, no repos, nothing.

Manually installing sources again.

I've also had the flickering issue, moiblesubstrate crashing causing a restart of springboard.

Some packages don't take effect, i.e. battery colors, blue music player...
