unibody 2.53ghz, 4gb ram, 512 graphics, 320gb 5400 rpm hd

boot time: 37-45 secs

UMBP
2.4ghz
4gb RAM
7200 rpm WD Black Scorpion HDD
35 second boot-timed as soon as power button pushed.

The HDD I installed versus the factory 5400rpm drive and the extra 2gigs of ram I installed dropped my boot time by almost 10 seconds.

Setup below.

Boots in 27 secs. I booted three times and they were all 27 exactly.

Apple Mac Pro 8-Core 2.93GHz (Nehalem) = 28 seconds to boot / 6 seconds to shut down.
Apple MacBook Pro 15" 2.93GHz (Unibody) + 8GB RAM + 64GB Intel X25-E SSD = 16 seconds to boot / 2 second to shut down.

Can I ask what drives you're using for your Mac Pro?

640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s

It's slower then my MacBook Pro... Maybe because it's loaded with "Pro-apps" like Maya 2009, Adobe Master, FCP, Logic... while the MacBook Pro is loaded with iLife apps.

Thanks for the info. I always wanted to buy Mac Pro. I think 28secs/6secs is fast enough and those pro-apps wouldn't run as fast on MacBook Pro.

early 08 2.5ghz, 4gb ram, 512 graphics, 320gb 7200 rpm hd

My mbp is loaded with pro apps, and has simplify media & font explorer x start at boot. Takes 43 seconds from the time I press the button for me to start using it.

1 min 07 sec :(. I start the timer when I push the power button.

Why so slow ? Can a boot camp partition make it longer ?

Perhaps you have more applications set to Open on Login, or your drive is 4200RPM?
Your Mac OS partition should be on the fastest part of the HD, so no, a boot camp partition would not affect it.

I have no "Open at login Apps" and I have a 7200rpm disk. I'm currently having a look at the system.log to see what's going on. Edit: I created a new topic so I dont pollute this one ;)

cluttered and full harddrive makes your boot time longer..
i just cloned my system to a scorpio and boot times hardly improved. im going to clean it up and defrag it,run the scripts and boot up/shut down few times to make it fast

The HFS+ file system does not need to be defrag. Edit .. maybe it does :)
