I see that a lot of you ordered the 2.8 instead of the 2.5. Will the difference be that much? I ask this because I do not know much about that kind of stuff. Should I go for the 2.8 also? I am going to be running Final Cut Studio, After Effects, and all the other video editing goodies.

Based on the pc magazine benchmarks here, it looks like having the faster cpu will make a noticeable improvement for non-game related apps. Just ordered a 2.8ghz today also.

@jpur: was that what you did? just call and say " I want free overnight upgrade?" o_O

if that's all i have to do, that'd be super.

Well, I just called and asked if I could expedite the shipping. I already paid the $10 for 2-3 day, and I told them that there was no overnight option for my configuration online and asked if I could get it. They said we upgraded you for free!

Where can I find the option to "ship items when available" or something like that. I don't need everything to be delivered together

"Prepared for Shipment" is the shipping status of my Macbook Pro, the base configuration. Can't wait to get my hands on it as soon as possible, I should of pay $10 more for faster shipping.:D

I think it is set to "ship items when available" by default. I didn't see that option either but when I go into order status screen it shows that it is under the option of ship things separately and tells me that I may receive multiple packages at different times depending on availability. It also says that it is free.

how is this possible? did you get the 7200 RPM upgrade in the store? I thought this wasn't possible.

I ordered mine a moment or two after the store came back up on 14 Oct. It's currently in-transit from China for Monday delivery.

Maxxed-out MBPro, no iLife, Aperture, Logic Express, or FCE. Did get 3-year AppleCare.

Have iLife on my soon-to-be-retired 17" pB, so I'll simply transfer it.

When did your's change to in-transit?? I ordered mine a couple hours afterward, and mine still says preparing for shipment, has stayed that way all day today.
MBP 2.8GHz
320GB HD 7500 rpm
Apple Care
No special software or accessories

It's a little after 8am in Shanghai right now, and it's tomorrow. It was taken to the FedEx facility at 18:33 yesterday and then left 10 minutes later, no doubt for loading on a flight to the US.

That was 12 hours ago their time.

Apple's email to me had a 6:33 timestamp, and I saw it at around 10:30. I never saw anything but an "in transit" designation.

Maybe a couple of hours after me they were swamped with tens of thousands of orders :D and yours is still in the manufacturing queue.

Dude you are so lucky. the timestamped mine at 8:03 and its waiting for FEDEX to pick it up. The tracking hasn't updated. I'm probably going to be a full day behind because it missed the truck.

Visited the Apple store today at the Country Club Plaza in KC and it was hard to see all the nice Macbooks and Macbook Pros sitting there, but I think it will be worth the wait for the faster hard drive. I couldn't quite see $300 for the 2.8, especially as I will probably be wanting the Macbook Pro II next year.
