I've read too many posts and seen too many eBay sales and seen too many friends iPhones with scratches to agree with this statement. Sorry
my sentiments exactly.
Case + Screen Protector= Resell.
I always have my phone in either a case or a holster so no scratches yet. If you keep your phone in your pocket I would definitely get something to protect the back since it's pretty easy to get scratches from keys or coins.
Phones don't go well with keys or coins.
I do keep my phone in my pocket but that will be the only thing in that pocket. Coins and keys go to other pocket.

I'm currently using some generic screen and back protectors and a set of orange stick-ons for the aluminum sides. The brand is Mallper and they're nice because they have this slight grainy texture to the touch.

Heres my current set-up. White vapor pro knock off from caseswill with the red back sticker from a red vapor comp also from caseswill. I also have white wraps from lucky labs and I used the white apple logo and placed it on the sticker on the back. I love this combo!!

Black Speck Candyshell Satin with one of those anti-glare, anti-fingerprint screen protectors from Sprint. I'm a Verizon users but they don't seem to cell anti-glare protectors
I prefer the minimalist look - so I think I'm going to order a backplate replacement (I think that's such a cool way to switch up the look of the phone and protect the original glass backing at the same time) - either a wooden or metallic one, haven't decided yet. And then just a best skins ever screen for the front and sides...or maybe a wooden/metallic bumper to cover the sides and match the backplate.
Thinking about splurging the $80 for the lifeproof waterproof case, too. For sports and vacation, seems like it would be awesome - plus turns the iphone into an underwater camera! Just seems to bulky to use as a permanent case...

Tons of great set-ups on here! Still trying to decide and what I'm getting. Before I purchased phone I was dead set on an Element case, then found out how much they cost$$$ Wow!
Been running the Verizon Holster / Kickstand Combo. Didn't want too leave store with out anything on it, and it's actually grown on me some. The holster has been nice at my work, then still have protection when not using that part.

Just don't forget that the lifeproof case isn't meant to be removed and put back on multiple times. You can but it'll lose it's seal making it no longer "waterproof".
