You should be able to drag it off while holding CMD.

I used Nocturne to invert my menubar for all of last month, and didn't notice any performance issues

It should be in the user and groups section in the system preferences. There is a checkbox located on it, and you can optionally display your full name, first name only, or just the icon itself. Or you can just turn it off.

Nocturne does however, affect fullscreen apps, as it will show half the top of a the fullscreen app with a black bar through it. That's why I switched to obsidian. Looks nicer anyways.
