Those are very interesting homes above for sure, but I kind of like a small house with standard materials, and thicker walls like the house I am in now. If I had too much glass I would either freeze to death or unilaterally keep the Middle East rich paying heating bills.
Unless I have a ton of kids, I don't see a need to go over 1,000 sq. feet, but part of that stems from me not being a pack rat anymore. If I don't use it, I give it away, recycle it, or if it's not worth anything to anybody, it goes in the trash.
I used to need a big house, or more space, because I used to like to keep around large collections of "anything" like models/stamps/coins/store signs/neon signs/fishing nets/power tools, guitars lying all about the house, many Macs and PCs, and more furniture than I knew what to do with. It was pack rat central. Somewhere along the line, I really got sick of "stuff" and got into believing less being best. I use a Mac mini and that sums up my philosophy.
My health got better because I was breathing in less dust, I don't miss the collections of junk, I play guitar much better because I stick to one instead of ten, and when I need a tool, I can find it and actually know how to use it. In my pack rat days, I wanted to get a really cool jack hammer and nail gun.
