Am I the only person who absolutely loathes the box behind the dock for so many reasons? It's the worst thing about iOS7 on a visual aspect.

Agreed. Nothing like finding a nice wallpaper...only to Apply and have it covered by the dock. Grr.

i very much dislike it too. (maybe even hate it)

The previous with the mini shelf that had some perspective (I think that's what it was) wasn't as "intrusive" into the screen.

I like having that area slightly separated but feel it could have been done better.

There is an option in iOS7.1 within the 'Accessibility' menu whereby you can turn the dock black - that might possibly help?!
