After some time with my iPhone 4 (my first iPhone) these have proven to be my most used apps/the best arrangement that I like to keep on the front page. Bump would be the next app if I had just one more spot.

I think the default Wallpaper looks best. I've tried others.

Mine is no different than a non jail broken screen. It's icons and a wallpaper. Stop complaining.
