I really like my phone to be completely clean and clutter free.
I do this by having one android style "app drawer" (folder for ios) and my two most important icons around it. Makes the high res wallpapers that much better

......it's quite simple really - IMHO, it gives a really clean look. Instead of your first page being cluttered with folders, have all the folders on a 2nd page and then just keep the home screen clean! This is how I do mine:
What is "clean" supposed to mean? The first page should be filled with icons of apps you frequently use. On a daily basis. So you know...you can get your job done quickly? I only stare at the wallpaper for a few seconds before I am in an app. This arrangement IMHO is pretty drat stupid.
Here are a few I low - I have captured and edited the photos for the iPad but the wallpapers can easily be used on the iPhone

The iPhone screens are there to be customised - whether you want to fill it with apps or not, that's personal preference.
.......you want to fill it with apps - that's fine! I don't ...!!!
I agree with Dino. It is personal preference and I like to Be able to see my wallpaper on my 1st page.

You hold down the home button and press the power button. That's the normal 960x640 resolution of the iPhone 4
Background is a picture of a lightning bolt from inside a plane. Took the pic on old 3G. Woulda been sweet on the 4 I bet.
