I prefer simple backgrounds, otherwise the background image conflicts with the icons and things get too busy. I upgraded from a 4S, so I had two additional rows of icons with the 6 and I'm still experimenting with this.
I kept the bottom 5 rows pretty much the same as with the 4S with a few tweaks. Folders at the top because that row is hard to reach one handed. I usually use Spotlight to launch apps rather than use the folders or go to one of the other screens, so I may end up using the top row for apps I commonly use instead.
