Post your iPhone battery life!

Just so everyone is aware... People shouldn't be letting their iPhones fully drain all the time. The more you charge it, the longer the battery lasts. The iPhone only has a limited number of charge "cycles" and 1 cycle can be a WHOLE discharge and recharge or SEVERAL partial charges... You'll get more life out of your battery if you charge it more.

My iPhone is relatively new and I use it for business. On heavy usage days (2+ hours of phone, 2 hours of web/emails and 1 hour or so of games/entertainment) my iPhone is pretty much ready to be recharged at the end of the day.

On light days (1 hour of phone, 1 of web/emails and less than 1 hour of gaming) I can go maybe two days before recharging.

For example, today is a light day. I have 2 hours and 5 minutes of usage and 9 hours and 39 minutes of standby. I currently have 3G, wifi and location services enabled, but everything else is turned off. I have about 90%+ battery remaining (see pic below).

Today is a pretty good day as far as iPhone battery life is concerned, but depending on what I'm doing (some games and other apps are real battery hogs) I may need to recharge my iPhone shortly after arriving home each day.

My battery life used to be much worse when I had "push email" enabled. My iPhone is syncs with our MSX server at work and on some days I can easily receive over 100 emails. Once I changed my email from "push" to "fetch every 15 minutes" my battery life improved dramatically.

So all in all, considering your usage, your battery life is not that bad and there might still be some settings you can tweak.

I get about 3hrs30 - 4hrs of usage on my 1st gen iPhone. Thats using EDGE and no music.

I've noticed I can squeeze over 4 hrs when I use WIFI.

I'm not quite following what you're saying. If I let a battery run down to half charge twice, isn't that one cycle? I didn't think it mattered about whether it was two half cycles or one full one before it's recharged. All I could find in the link was

I just found another link where Apple seem to contradict themselves by saying

This one links into the iPhone specific one you posted above, but it's Li-ion batteries they're talking about so I don't see why it should make a difference do you?

A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge. For instance, you could listen to your iPod for a few hours one day, using half its power, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two, so you may take several days to complete a cycle.

Basically... it's not bad for the iPhone to plug it in whenever you get the chance. If you use it until it's dead and THEN recharge it, you'll use up one of your cycles a lot faster than charging it often. Get what I'm saying? You'll have a longer lasting battery that way. Also, it is good to completely drain it once a month to calibrate the battery indicator.

You may be right, but I don't think it makes any difference. I think two half cycles with a smaller charge in between and a charge at the end is the same as a full cycle with one full charge.

Also, it is good to completely drain it once a month to calibrate the battery indicator.

Did you notice one of Apple's web pages suggested this and the other said it's not necessary? No wonder people often wonder about this!

Usage: 6hours 43 minutes
Standby: 1 Day 1 Hour

Is this good. Anyhow if it is I may hold of on swapping to the 1800mah battery from repairuniverse....but either way Im thinking on taking the plunge.
The newer battery and higher mah should get me quite a bit more use. A phone that can go about 2 days is what im looking for. Over that im satisfied.

I only get bout 15 hours standby and 4 hours usage on my first gen. So what you're getting is pretty good :)

Thats "up to" on all those figures on the iphone tech-specs not that you WILL ... its expected that you'll get less if you use more
 
Sorry to tell you this but the "genius" is right.

My battery lasts about 2 days average, maybe 3 if I'm really lucky and most of that is it on standby.

In factory tests when the phone is fresh off the production line with all the low power settings you "might" get the 300hours it says on the apple site.

Not great but to be fair. 3G, Location Services, Wi-Fi & variable EQ in iPod were left on but BT & Push email were off

Your battery life SHOULD be alot better than you currently say it is.

I charged my iPhone 3GS almost 1 week ago and this is my results still with 33% battery, picture for the people who would say "Yeah right" if i just had of given my word.

Also there was roughly 1 and a half hours of calls, just reset the call times earlier.

It says right on your screen, iPhone has been plugged in since last full charge.

usually 16-18 hours of standby

i try to keep the phone in edge and i recharge every night.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!!!! HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU PEOPLE GET 1 DAY, 2 DAYS OF STANDBY?!

I dont even think i get past like 15 hours. Then agin, when i use my phone, a lot of the time it is with safari. But i dont think that even if i only texted on my phone, that i would be able to even get a day...

These ratings are not AND statements. If you switched on your iPhone and instantly started a five-hour phone conversation it would shut-off with a small deviation due to reception.

In my circumstances I can unplug the 3GS at 9am Monday and not have the battery die until Tuesday around 7pm. This is the greatest total 'time away from charger' that I can accomplish.

Average snapshot:
Usage 7 hours 40 minutes
Standby 1 Day 3 hours

1 hour calls on Edge
30 min calls on 3G
5 hours WiFi web browsing
Close windows in Safari before exit
Auto-brightness
Airplane Mode 12 hours (using Byline and Instapaper in offline mode)
PUSH Mail, Contact, Calendar OFF
Push Notifications OFF
Location Services OFF

I also have a screenshot of challenging the battery with everything ON and my battery died in 11 total hours. PUSH, Location Services, Bluetooth, WiFi, never Airplane Mode.

Are you trying to compare a first gen. iphone with your 3GS?:confused:

They are just too different to compare.

browsing the Internet the whole Time on 3g I just turned wifi on for about a half hour. Made a 22 minute phone call, and texting just about all day.

:eek::eek::eek: This is what i get from on my 3G ONLY browsing on a 3G network. No texts or calls.:mad:

I get 3- 4 hours usage (usually 3.5) and anywhere from like 10 hrs to over one day of standby. I have 3g on and brightness at like 40-50%. Everything else is off (fetch new data, wifi,location services)

I think my battery life is a little on the low side.
 
For the first time I turned off my 3G. It really save a lot of battery. I've had it off all day until right now to reply on this thread and my battery isn't at 20% yet. I've had it on since I woke up for church at 8 until now. I talked for almost 2 hours with my Bluetooth headset, have texted a good amount, and have been listening to music for about 45 min.

So I think thr my screenshot above is normal since I have been getting good battery life today. So there's no problem with my battery.

Usage: 4:25
Standby: 10:32

So I'm happy!!!:D
