Very nice. What components are in the build list?
i5 6500 (non k)
Gigabyte Z170N board
16gb Hynix DDR4 2133
512 XPG NVME SSD (Gen3x4, mounted on the underside of the motherboard)

I'm using the integrated graphics and that tiny power supply it's only 150 watts lol. I've stress tested it overnight and it's rock solid.

So these were ordered a week or so ago (but it was COD so I didn't technically "buy" them until today) - more storage for the office.

And then the more 'fun' stuff: a 'iPad in a hotel' kit

A cable for those few times I need to plug my phone into my laptop (i.e. when tethering in a coffee shop, helps not needing to charge both devices separately)

And finally a shade sail to go over the soon-to-be-built sandpit for the boy.

Ugreen is a good brand

A sheet of ⅝” plywood.

The guy at Home Depot even cut it to the approximate dimensions of the hole in my bathroom floor. Much easier to handle.

The rotted stuff is removed, the framing reinforced, and it’s finally going back together after a week.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel, and am optimistic that it’s not a train.

I got a new 2019 15in i9 MacBook Pro last weekend. It’s my first 15in and I am loving it. I also got a dock for it for when I am at home. Using one cable for charging and the IO is awesome.

Much much higher processing chip.

Now to figure out what to do with the 1700 o_O

The 3800X is an awesome chip. You could take the 1700 and build a FreeNAS server with it. Just give it a lot of RAM as CPU power isn't as much of a necessity for a NAS.

They seem pretty reasonable from the few short ones I bought earlier for a charging dock, there aren't that many MFI certified brands here, and they offer the nylon braided variants which definitely seem to improve the life of the cable so it was a no brainer really.

A had a FreeNAS system and tried UnRaid and have been happier with it so far over the last 18 months.
It has a Ryzen 1200, it has been great for a $99 CPU, 32GB RAM and 24TB.

I was on FreeNAS for about a year then tried UnRaid at home then eventually switched my main office NAS to UnRaid.

Then ended up going QNAP at home :D
For a 9Bay enclosure it is very small and has Gigabit and 10Gb ethernet.
5 full size HDD bays and 4 SSD bays for read/write caching.
It's pretty nice.

So the QNAP has 10 gbps on it, eh? Have you also setup a 10 Gbps network at home? I'm thinking that will be my 2020 project.

At home I just have a Akitio Node thunderbolt enclosure with a dual 10Gb Nic. so NAS to Nic to iMac.
The 1Gb port connects to the rest of the network.

The NAS is a TVS-951X and I upgraded to 16GB of RAM myself.
https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/tvs-951x

(If I am not in a hurry I will typically watch the Amazon used section for better deals. Example on this NAS, I saved $120 and the package wasn't even opened, there was just a damaged corner of the packaging so it was listed used/like new, and I have a 45day return window with Amazon so I will use this frequently to save some cash)

So I get 10Gb connection on one machine. I just haven't had the want to purchase any more 10Gb equipment as I'm the only one using it at the moment at that speed.

The Akitio was leftover from a previous eGPU setup and I had extra dual port 10Gb NIC's at work from a build-out a little over a year ago.

Doing this, was less expensive than most Thunderbolt 10Gb solutions. The NIC was bought on ebay for around $35 shipped and it came with a 10Gb fiber transceiver and a 10Gb copper tranceiver.
I already had the other parts to make it.

So my home solution is a :
Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter
Thunderbolt 2 cable (from iMac to Akitio Node)
Akitio Node
Solarflare SFN5122F Dual port 10Gb NIC (inside the node) (the old mac drivers still work on the newest os)
10Gb fiber to copper transceiver
CAT6 from the NIC to the NAS.

Not the most elegant solution but it works well.

At work I have a UniFi 16 port 10Gb Switch and all of the servers and NAS devices connect directly to this, then 10Gb fiber runs out of it to the dual UniFi 48 port switches. So more of a proper setup there.

bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 in Rose Blush , now I have everything apple (IPP 11, etc) but as a wireless guy I like to keep one android device around and this is it.

What's your estimated ship date?
Chose to pick up at the store, next Friday.
I had already ordered my Apple Watch on keynote day and chose in-store pickup. I was already going there anyway so I just added the phones to the same time window.

I have to work Fridays and having to have someone with their face against the window waiting to sign for a delivery was less desirable than driving about 20 minutes away and seeing the madness that is iPhone day.
